Fairly soon members may be headed to the Canadian Bush for a spring bear hunt or a fishing trip. The flies can ruin your vacation. There is a company called Shaklee. They are Multi Level Marketing home based business. Find a dealer and get a product called Basic 'H'. It is some kind of Organic soy based liquid soap. Dilute it by half with water. Cover all exposed skin with the solution. Do not miss a spot!! The little meat eaters will crawl all over you, but will not bite through it. Close your cuffs and collars tight to keep them out, I use duct tape for the cuffs and tuck a bandana in my shirt collar. If they do find a spot you missed they will all happily feed there. It is like missing a spot with sunscreen, except you pay in blood and meat.
I do not like a head net. A head net with no see um mesh does work.
If you are fishing cigar smoke works well and those Canadian imported Havanas are pretty good.
An added bonus with the Basic H is you are already soaped up if your camp has shower facilities.
Mosquitoes are not hindered in the least by Basic H.
