here is PAs season on yotes. and we still have some problems but not bad yet.
ADOPTED 2009-10 FURBEARER HUNTING SEASONS
COYOTES: No closed season. Unlimited. Outside of any deer or bear season, coyotes may be taken with a hunting license or a furtaker license, and without wearing orange. During any archery deer season, coyotes may be taken while lawfully hunting deer or with a furtaker license. During the regular firearms deer and any bear seasons, coyotes may be taken while lawfully hunting deer or bear, or with a furtaker license while wearing 250 square inches of fluorescent orange. During the spring gobbler season, may be taken by those with a valid tag and meet fluorescent orange and shot size requirements.

In my part of NY, that is every day, 24/7. Ken Central NY and just North of you. ^_^

Snares are very effective against yotes..for more than traps or dogs.. How would you make a snare for a yote? Is there a way to keep other things out of them?

Chuck, I prefer to buy them.I have made and sucessfully caught yotes with them. There is a guy on E-Bay who goes by DakotaSnares.I will get you a link later.Below is pictured one of his deer proof snares that I use on yotes. They come dyed and scent free in plastic bags.It has the swivel on the one end, in which I prefer.I have had a twist out before. That snare did not have the swivel on it.I have only lost one yote in the past 6-7 years, that was due to a slider hole being drilled to close to the edge.Note the small anealed nut. That is the deer stop.It will only close down so far.Honestly,I have never had a deer trip a snare in 35 yrs plus of snaring, and that was in thick deer country...I have caught one domestic dog,he was waiting on me to show up to turn him loose.Domestics will cease to struggle as soon as they feel it tightening down, yotes will not.Occasionally, one will still be alive when I show up.Ball bat or pistol to finish.I set a 10 in loop/10 inches off of the ground to target yotes. This targeted set will not catch fox, skunk.I did catch a 28 lb boar coon.I use no.9 wire as a support for the snare on open ground sets or a lighter gauge if there is a nearby sapling, fence ect. I will make a couple sets and post pics later...any questions just ask.. Following is a pic of snare with the relaxing lock.they do not fire as reliably and as quickly as the one pictured above.Hence my preference. You can take the shine off of these by soaking them in vinegar. There is no deer stop on this model and no swivel.I can provide links to suppliers for all of the componets if you would like.Bear in mind all snares are not created equal.
