I am working on loads for a 44 mag Marlin lever action. I am looking for feed back on the effectiveness of the Gold Dot 44 bullets. Is there any advantage in shooting soft points over hollow points? I have no experience shooting deer with the 44 rifle and am hoping to hear of actual reports from hunters who have. How do 44 hollow point bullets hold up on shoulder shots? Will they exit? Also I am not interested in shooting cast lead or bullets over 270 grains. The 240 to 270 grain range will be my choice. All replies, opinions and stories are welcome.

do you want an exit hole? and what is the max distance you plan on shooting? i have noo exp. with the gold dot but i have been shooting the hornaxy XTPs in 200 grn with good luck. i would think the hollow point would go threw the shoulder but might not exit depending on the range. in my preferance i like the hollow point but there are questions that they dont expand cause they get clogged by hair but i havent had that happen. all the ones i recovered expanded as expected.
