Whan i first bought my Savage everything was Great, I bought the Black syn stock with the blued barrel. And and a Leapold scope. I seem to get alot of misfires, i changed out the vent thinking it was wornen out, and istalled a new one only to find i was still getting the same result, So i pulled out the Breech plug and inspected it, reinstalled it back in useing anti seiz, and teflon tape, becareful as not to use to much. And still misfires, I've tried the CCI primers, and several different loads H-4198, 5744, R-7 and still i get misfires. Help iam lost as what else to try.

What bullet/sabot are you using? Smokeless powder needs a tight fitting bullet to ignite reliably. I would not use both antiseize and teflon tape, one or the other works fine. Make sure you are not getting any antiseize in the ignition path. Fire several primers before you load to be sure the path is clear.

Dave
What do you mean by a miss fire? Are the primers going off? If the primers are going off I would agree with blackhawk. Make sure if primer goes off you re seat the load before you try again or a bulged barrel may be the result!

You didn't mention if it had an accutrigger. If it does, are you pulling the trigger correctly. If you're primers fire but the powder doesn't ignite, look for loose fitting bullet/sabot combo.

Dave22, Welcome, I would make sure you are using a Magnum primer. Stay with 5744 powder until you figure out the problem. Have you drilled out your breech plug? Do not over due it on the ventliner grease because you do not want grease in the flash hole. Always use a tight fitting sabot/ bullet combo that requires two hand to seat the bullet. Steve

I suspect it you either have the wrong bullet or sabot size or both. Mike

How many shots have your fired through the plug? You might need to drill the carbon out.

Happen to me also when I switch powders from 5744 to 4198. With 4198 bullet must be seated with a LOT of pressure, like lean into it with all your body weight AND you must have a tight sabot. What is "tight sabot", well it is Goldilocks tight. Not so loose you can push it down wiht 1 hand and not so tight you have to pound it down with a hammer. A lot of force will get it down the barrel, that is Goldilocks tight. I suspect it is non-tight sabots or non-compressed powder. Look thru the hold in your breech plug, MUSt be drilled/clean out EVERY 25 shot or so. It builds up fast. Chap

Your first sentence stating that when you first bought it everything was great leads me to believe (Probably incorrectly) that at first you didn't get misfires. Please clearify that. This would permit us to offer more realistic suggestions. Ozark
