I use Weaver style rings most of the time. I like the steel bases and rings, the newer split alloy rings are getting some use here. I keep three sets of 'trial' rings; low , medium, and high. The are aluminum alloy and not very expensive. I try to mount a scope for the best 'cheek weld'. I will then shoot the rifle several times. I have found that sometimes what feels good at the workbench can catch me under the cheekbone and make my eyes water. The cheap rings allow me to try another height. When I find the height I like I will get a permanent set for the gun.
Ring heights are not standard. All ring manufacturers do not apply the low, medium, and high terms to a set distance. One may have a medium height ring closer to the low ring of a different manufacturer.

That is a great idea with the set of cheap rings.

With the usual Savage/Warne setup it's a pretty safe bet to order Medium rings for scopes of up to 44mm.
