I have been hunting with this gun for the past three years. The first year I used a .44 mag barrel from a T/C, 12-1/2 in. Had one shot, got one doe. She ran 100 yards with the shot in the liver. No hunting the second year due to surgery. The third year I went to a .460, hunted one time, got a big doe, 120 lbs. She lost her heart and went 30 yards. I was using a Hornaday 250 gr. xtp. This bullet in the .460 is just to much. A lot of meat damage. I plan on using a 200 gr. FTX this year. I also got a barrel from MGM in .357 Maximum, bull at 12 in. With any luck I may get a deer with both cals. Although satisfied with both barrels I have a question. I have been crimping my bullets untill I tried a Hornady FTX 250 gr. which does not have a crimping grove. They shoot fine. My question is, do I need to crimp with the Encore

I shoot a Contender -- 357 Herrett, 32-20, 218 Bee -- I don't crimp any of my rounds. I've not had ignition / burn problems by not crimping. Back in the day when I knew more than I do now, I thought the crimp was for tube magazines. If I were to experience problems I might start putting on a little crimp.

Crimping is only necessary if you are shooting guns that hold multiple rounds, like revolvers or autos. Crimping keeps the bullet from moving out of the case with the recoil of the gun. Single shot pistols or rifles don't need crimped bullets. Mike

Bin some time since I have been on here, but thanks for the assureance about crimpinng. I made another trip to the range with no crimped bullets. Loaded the same HORNADY FTX, 200 gr. and 47 gr. of H110, and the 250 gr. with 39 gr. of 4227. I also used a BELLM oversized hinge pin. The results were about as good as it gets. I very seldom shoot at 100 yards, but since groups were so close at 50 I decided to try 100. I have a sightron red dot sight on my Encore and at 100 yards it is a bit fuzzy with my trifocals. To my suprise the 250 gr grouped about 2 inches an almost the same POI. I have had my problems with this gun. After swithcing to STARLINE brass and using the BELLM hinge pin, and being more careful when reloading, plus the FTX bullets, I think I have it licked, I will get to try it Oct 2nd. I'll let ya-all know.
