I am looking for suggestions on what to fill two of my Lead Sled Weight Bags with? I could use sand of which is says will make it end up weighing around 7 lbs each. I was hoping to get more weight in each of the two that I have. I hate to drop a large amount of money in lead shot ($40 for 25 lbs).
Does anyone have any of inexpensive suggestions besides sand to help increase the weight?
Thanks,

Field expedient, cheap would be a good flat granite stone, I seen a bunch of them in PA ;D ;D Or maybe find a podunk junkyard and get spirng leaves cut 1' long, just flip the kid maybe $10, wrap them in like old canvas and put them in a heavy bag, that would be good for 17-20lbs easy. You could even use re-bar, axle shafts, a piece of train rail might be too much (a foot is over 30lbs). Recycled, non-toxic, hey that's green!
If you want lead, find a plumbing supply store and see what the price for lead ingots (plumbers lead) but if the price is still up your looking at over $1 a pound, IIRC somebody here on the board had sheet lead that they salvaged out of a hospital.

Rossman,
Thanks for your ideas. The lead ingots maybe the way I want to go. I do have some sand of which I guess I could try. I also have some rice in Caldwell Tack Driver.

Last time I went to the service station for lead I bought a 5 gallon bucket of old wheel weights for $10.00.

Personally I think the reason for lead shot is for the same reason you would use a dead blow hammer.. I think all the shot absorb's recoil better myself. And for sand.... My luck would be that it would spring a leak, and sand aint good for gun actions, stocks and the such.... Lead is starting to come back down. I got mine for $20 a bag last spring.... It was stuff that didnt sell over the winter. Drop
