What are your favorite varmit guns? By my handle easy to guess my favorite is my 10ga Ithaca Automag. She is tricked out like any really good shotgun should be. She is NASTY on the baddies. Next favorite is my .17 Rem in CZ 527 Varmit with a Bushnell 3-10 X 50 glass. Of course I mostly hunt fur so that means I hate exit holes. What are your favorites? 10ga

i LOVE my Marlin 17HRM. ive gotten ground hogs out to 173 lazered yards. it is so accurate head shots are a excellent possibillity. so if you are a pelt hunter its nice for that and the 17 grn hornady ammo usually doesnt go threw it explodes in side. the 20 grn is alittle sturdier and MIGHT go threw depending on sot and distance.

Same as elkboy except a handloaded 55 gr NBT going 4000 fps and a 6.5 X 20 fine hair Leupold AO. Easy MOA out to 500 yds with no wind. Very flat.

I have a 25-06 I have had since 1962, it was a wildcat then. Still shoots great plus I can also use it for deer etc.

Not sure of all the animals under the varmint catagory but I think my Marlin Varmint in 17HMR has to be my choice. It may be a mite small for the larger varmints but it is so accurate that bullet placement is shooter selective. If the varmint is 100 yards or less a head shot is possible on even smaller animals. My Savage .243 would be my reach way over yonder and do the job.

For the small critters under 150 yds it's my Marlin 17HMR. For the bigger ones and longer range it goes to the Rem 700 in 25-06.

Last year I would have said my Rem 700 BDL in 22-250 but now I'm not that sure. My Savage 17 HMR is right up there. It won'd do as much at long range but up to 100 yds it's great.

I love my triumph .50 cal and have used nothing else but it this year. Good to 100-yards. If I need to reach out farther, I'll take my grandfather's Sako barrel and action, with a custom stock, .222. I suspect you're talking yotes and larger...the 50 cal leaves some nasty exit wounds on ground hogs. Have a great day! Dave

Wilmsmeyer, I was shooting the same hand load but moved up after doin some varmit hunting in colorado waiting on elk season one year .....seemed like the coyotes there were tougher than here in Indiana....seemed like the 55grn just bounced off at 300 - 400 yards , they never flinched and I know that rifle is MOA out to 350 and we were hit them dogs.....so I moved up to a higher grn NBT drops them dogs here in Indiana and slows them down in Colorado just long enough to get another one in em

I doubt they bounced off!! I will say that under 300 yds, they rarely exit on an 8-10 lb woodchuck. At 350 yds that bullet is down to 2700 fps or so and should be a fine coyote round.
I've shot 6-7 fox with it which are the size of a cat and it tears them up.
I shot one coyote with my 243 1 month after I bought it but was using a factory round 75 gr vmax and I hit the shoulder up high. That dog had a softball size hole thru him that looked like an M80 went off there

I really like the CZ rifles. I have one in 204 that I've shot maybe 100 times. One in 22 hornet, 17 HMR and a .22. They all shoot well.

mine is my AR-15 in 223 with a my bull barrel. it drives tacks and its a cheap shooter and its not very picky with ammo. and i love 2 keep squeezing the trigger and being able to keep on target without cycling a bolt...
