I recently bought a Henry 3030 mainly to hunt black bear either at close range over bait or if treed by hounds. Most shots will be 100 yards or less. I may also use it for deer in thick woods instead of the standard old 12guage with buckshot that we use in central Va. I’m thinking about putting either a reflex or a red dot scope on it. I’m leaning more toward a reflex and I would like some recommendations on what folks have used, liked and disliked or I other info I can gather from folks that have more experience than me. Thanks in advance.

For the parameters you mentioned I would recommend a fixed 6x42 or 44mm scope.

A low power variable is suited better. 1 x 4, 2 x 7, anything bigger than 32 mm front glass will top heavy the gun. I have a Marline 336, 30/30 with a Burris 2 x 7, 32 mm glass. sits low and nice.
