I had not bought smokeless powder in quite awhile. Was surprised with tax it was $57 a pound.

In a way I'm not surprised as the cost of everything keeps going up. The other thing of SML powder is availability.

Supply chain. I've read in more than one place that powder manufacturers are having big problems in getting all the ingredients to produce several powders. Even though they make perfect sense, I'll leave conspiracy theories out of it.

Considering that the majority of us/ or all posting on this thread are lower load shooters, we should be thankful that we aren’t shooting 325g Aeromaxes/ 105g H4895. Jim, that 53-54g of H4227/$57 per # will go a long way.

I was gonna buy some N110 but they only had 2lbs of my other powder so I bought those 2lbs. When I go back hopefully I will be able to get some more N110.

I can get about 100 shots out of a pound of powder. I have 2 guns shooting the same load about 6 years ago I had a few 1ld bottles. Then I found a 8ld jug I still have the full 8ld jug it was $175. I was buying the 1ld bottles till the price went wild. I am happy to have it now but the primers are crazy! My load of powder is 69gr to 70gr of IMR4198 in my 50cal and my 45cal.

Have you seen BH209? It’s $80 now and that’s a half pound. I wonder what their excuse is. $160 a pound is unreal. If I can find a 5lb jug somewhere I’m buying it.

Hogdgon bought it from Western powder. It's not super easy to make which is why each lot varies so much. But everyone was converting to Blackhorn which is why Hogdgon bought it. It was cutting into their profits. So what they did was jack up the price which kept the die hards. The rest went back to 777 and Pyrodex which Hogdgon owns already. So they kept ALL of their customers, are making less Blackhorn and bringing in 35-40% more revenue on Black powder substitutes by doing nothing more than a label change from 10oz to 8oz.
