It’s been years since I’ve really interacted in this board. I’d say I was one of the early pioneers of the Sav 10mlII. I still have mine and hunt with 42.5 grains of VVn110 and 30p grain SSt hph12 sabot, and kill lots of deer.
Now for the question! I picked up a reming 700ml today at a auction. I’ll never use it as is. What should I do with it? What are all the new ignitions systems? What barrel should I use? What caliber? Or should I just sell it to someone else for a donor?
I’m open to a new project so I’m interest in hearing opinions.
FYI back in early days 20 years ago plus or minus there wasn’t many loads, or sabot combinations I didn’t try. Even tried double sabots glued together with 410 shotgun wad bases as an extra wad to shoot lighter stuff. So I’ve been there done that on a lot of stuff in trial and error but it was all really before knurling and new barreling and that stuff became a more normal thing. So anyway. What’s your thoughts. And for that matter just as a donor what’s it worth?
Thanks in advance

Now i know how the other guys feel when i ask a million questions at 1 time......lol !!! Theres still a few guys converting the 700ml . Depends how clean it is and if SS OR Blued for worth . I gave 200 for my SS clean one 4 yrs ago . Now i hear of some 3 times that . 209s are still around and for a 700ml i think the Woodman Arms adjustable , bushing bp is the best tested to 60k psi without primer failure . Its like jewelery in the hands . In fact if a 6ish lb smokless capable 45 with a Brux or a McGowen 1 in 20 or better yet 1 in 18 twist interest you for $1k i could stop now writeing . Its a break action and a sweetheart of a gun . 100% American made called their Patriot . Arrowhead has a modual LRMP bushed plug and bolt nose kit . He carrys the 209 smoker kit too . No ready to put on remage barrels ANYWHERE for a 700ml . . PERSONALLY id consider a 40 if you go bolt action . Theres all kinds of good vld bullets now and a 250gr 40 has about the same bc and ability as a 300gr vld 45 With far less recoil . 1 in 14 to 1 in 16 is the norm for twist . The 40 is a lazar beam !!! They are Very powder - bullet weight picky . Build pressure quickly too . REALLY quick . If you are a mad scientist its for you . A 45 is pretty well plug and play anymore. Almost NOBODY plays with the 50 anymore either or has Savage any calier barrels and parts are scarce too from what i understand for the ML2 . .
Read all the past posts too . Theres alot to catch up on if you wanna be up to date .

I have a 700ml that I sent off to McGowen for a rebarrel. I went with the Arrowhead 209 breech plug and installed the bolt nose myself. It is currently on its way back to me now. I have been talking to a couple guys that have recently sent their 700mls off to McGowan they seem happy with the results so far one has a 45 barrel shooting n110 with 200gr saboted SSTs, the other fellow had a 40 built and had some impressive preseason groups. I have 1 more 700ml action setting in my safe, the barrel is shot so depending on how the first one turns out I might have a second one going for a rebarrel next spring.
