Good to see this site still alive. I'm thinking of trying to harvest wild but beloved semi-pet hogs at point blank range with either a .45 or .416 muzzleloader. I've harvested some with a .22 and then wounded one and felt bad plus lost the meat. Limited sound is important. Don't want neighbors getting too upset or I'd just use a high-powered rifle. Although considered AG land, Legality is iffy -- police don't even know. I have about every kind of powder including Vivatauri 110. Any ideas on loads that are subsonic? Also, all my rifles have muzzle brakes. I harvest the hogs toward a jungle/orchard. I shoot between the home and a washroom wall. I imagine the sound goes back through a carport and straight to neighboring homes in front. Would I be better off sound-wise to take off the muzzle brake?

Consider getting (or borrowing) a crossbow! Very accurate, very quiet, very deadly. Good luck, don't get caught.
