Hello, new member here. I have a new to me Savage 10ML-ii that was fitted with a .45 cal McGowan stainless barrel. I don't believe McGowan is making barrels for the Savage ML10 any longer. Does anyone know if they made their own breech plugs for those barrels? The one I have doesn't look the same as the ones I've seen online for the Savage. It has full length threading, a 7/16 bolt head for removal, and the vent liner looks different. If anyone has any information about these, or where I can get replacement vent liners, I would really appreciate the help.

My Savage BP has a 3/8" hex head and not threaded all the way. Bet your BP is from one of the sml builders. PM me about vent-liners i have some new ones and couple of lightly used ones to get to a new home

Thanks for the replies. Mine looks exactly like one of Luke's. I'm almost certain it is although I sent him a message on his site and he replied that his all have 3/8 inch hex heads (however in the description on his web site, one of them does say it's a 7/16 hex head). Unfortunately, when I ran a cleaning rod and patch down the barrel, I quickly discovered it has a significant bulge about 5 inches from the breech. I can even feel the bulge on the outside of the barrel. Must have had a double charge. I'm hoping the seller is a stand up guy and will take it back.

Just about tell you that's the reason it was sold. Many many owners really try to max out loads to reach on out distance. I sold every rifle i owned cause i like tick toters knowing i am in the same area they are to hunt. Mind you i am a meat hunter n antlers are a bonus. I bet you can't find 8 racks i own now. Even the mounted heads i have given away.

It is an estate sale, so it's very possible the wife and son didn't know about the bulge in the barrel. I just sent it back to them, they say if it has a bulge (I have detailed photos of it) they will refund my money. This Savage would have been great for my needs (I hunt some pretty wide open canyon country in Utah) but sadly the rifle had a hard life. Supposedly it only had 32 rounds fired, but at least one of them had way too much powder (or possibly the barrel was obstructed).
