Luke still has barrels for Savage on his site. Compatible with Savage 10ML (not 10ML-2) the prefits he has i sent him a email and got a i do not work on ML2 anymore. sure seems like a waste i understand its better Tech. out there but lots of us still have the ML2.

I'm sure the issue is a lack of locking lugs and fear someone will try at some point to shoot big boy loads like the ones shot in receivers with bolt lugs that take the pressure. This may sound redundant but you may be happier to find a Savage large bolt face short action and put a Brux pre fit on it and you'll be in a whole new realm of accuracy and power. The Brux barrel is extremely accurate.

For several years after the 10MLII was introduced, there were quite a few photos of ruptured barrels on forums. Some had admitted to mistakenly using a double load. One could see that even when ruptures severe enough to split the barrel back to the breech plug, the threads did not fail. Was there ever photo proof the failure of breech plugs? Hillbill once stated that lugged bolts in CF receivers were probably more for peace of mind than safety.
My biggest problem with the 10MLII after (and before) converting to .45 was carbon leaking through the breech plug. No spent primer ever came out clean of carbon which also turned the front half of the bolt black after only a few shots. Exterior of the breech plug wrapped enough with plumber's tape stopped leaks around the plug, but many, many things tried over the years failed to stop leaks through the plug.
At one point, I got PR Bullet's Precision Rifle Savage LRVF kit with primer adapters, thinking it might help. At that time, LR primers were easier to find than 209's. End result was there was just as much carbon deposit as before. The breech plug was modified for a tungsten carbide bushing. Someone mentioned using "O" rings in their break action having a similar plug from PR bullet which stopped all leakage. I tried the same thing and after headspacing the barrel for the "O" ring, became a very happy camper -- NO MORE LEAKAGE!!! Accuracy was improved as well.
Granted, the 10MLII converted to .45 will never be able to shoot 325gr bullets @ 3,000fps so one can "bang a gong" at 1,000yds+, but the conversion doesn't cost $3-$4 grand, either. Using sane hunting loads with a 275gr bullet loaded to speeds of 2700-2800fps keeping psi below 40,000, the 10MLII is still a great 200-300yd (or more) ML. For us mostly woods hunters, that is WAY more than needed. It's been quite a few years since I've shot a deer from even over 100 yards.
