Hi everyone, I have recently jumped into smooth form bullet to barrel with my knight .45. I have only been working with pyrodex/ 209 primers/ hornady 250 gr. FTX and SP bullets. I am not able to get a group at all. No matter how I size the bullets for ease of loading. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks in advance

I would suggest you try a wad. Either wool or veggie, whatever you have or can find. A few shots will let you know if you are on the right track.

Could it be possible that there is not enough pressure when you load the bullet on the powder.I know I had that problem for awhile, then I just put a little bit more body weight into it and things straightened out for me.

Loading force is rarely the deciding factor. Example: If the force to load a bullet is 10#, then no matter how hard you compress the propellant, the holding force will never be more than 10#. Poor breech plug design is likely the #1 issue but, a Knight shouldn't have that issue. As billc suggested, use a wad. Pyrodex may be another issue. BH is best but if it were me, I'd shoot T7 over Pyrodex if I wasn't shooting BH.

Thanks for the suggestions and information. Are the wool and veggie wads readily available? I haven’t shopped for those yet. As for the BH 209, do I need a better/different breech plug? I’ve not tried bh209 but I was using APP and it was actually 200fps faster than T7. But it has moisture and storage issues. Also, I would like to go to rifle primers but I haven’t found the conversion that I keep reading about. Lehigh defense I think was the company. I really like this ML and want to make the bullet to bore work for me. Thanks again for your help

That 250gr FTX has a hard jacket compared to some other bullets, your probably not getting good obturation, I didn't when I tried them out of my 45 cal. Disc Elite. I would try a 250gr XTP, 275gr BE, or one of the Fury line of bullets, something with a thinner, softer jacket.

I have never gotten the FTX/SST to shoot worth a d**n sabotless. Try a Fury Star Tip with a thinner jacket or the Parker BE.
