I took my MLII SS TH out for a spin the other morning . Weather was good , 50 degrees , damp , overcast with no wind . My way of prepping a barrel is to fire 2 primers to foul the barrel ... a method I have used for years . I use Federal 209A primers in this particular gun . My first primer did not go off . When I checked it a very light hit . The next one I tried went off so I loaded my very mild load of 44.0 grains of 5744 with a Hornady 250 grain XTP to further foul the barrel and to check for more light hits . That failed to fire several times as well . After each fail to fire , I checked the seating of the charge and bullet and found them still seated correctly . I next loaded the 44.0 grain 5744 charge and a Hornady 250 grain MonoFlex in a MMP HPH12 sabot . This load failed to fire several times also. Now I am very familiar with the incorrect pressing of the Savage Accu Trigger causing light hits on the primer . I have never had a problem like this in the past . Any suggestions . Could the bolt need a cleaning ?

One way to find out, pull the bolt apart and clean and dry. I think ET may have it, the bolt on my Savage will do the same thing if it is not closed all the way. Mine has like a notch where it feels like it's closed but, it needs a little more pressure on it to close completely. If you do pull your bolt apart take a look at the firing pin make sure it is not broken or chipped .

mrbuck Make sure the bolt handle is all the way down. Bolt handle not "locked" down was generally the cause of clicks and no bang.

So I had a primer light hit and fail to fire a few years ago. It was on a genuine 150” or better buck no less. Cannot begin to express the emotions I exhibited that day. Anyways, if you search my posts I had junk in behind my firing pin from years of hunting some very nasty terrain and carbon buildup. A can of spray “gun scrubber” by Birchwood Casey blasted it out of the bolt and it was nasty am embarrassed to say. Well worked like a charm after cleaning. Lesson learned the hard way.
