With the 195 gr Barnes impossible to find I’d like to try the 225 gr Fury. Been shooting 62 gr H4198 and harvester light blue sabot with the Barnes. Any ideas where to start? Expected velocity?
.45 cal pacnors with 209 plugs.
I’ve tried searching but wasn’t able to find exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks in advance

I will give you what I have with a 230 grain .401 Fury and smooth blue Harvestor in a .45 SML with a 28 inch barrel on a Ruger No. 1 1.2 dia action. 10 grains of 4759, 60 of 4198 yields 2900 fps. 60 grains in most guns would be a better load. I do use a 209 plug.

I have been shooting the 225 grain .400 fury star tip for three years now. I use a Sav/Brux 45 cal 26" barrel, HLB sabots, HIS LRMP, and (coincidently) 62 gr H4198. This load shoots 'lights out' in 3 different Sav/Brux 45 cal rifle I have put together, moderate recoil, great performance on deer. Shoots ~ 2,700 fps in my 26" Brux barrel.

How did the 225gr fury bullets do on deer expansion wise?

The damage done is impressive and deer expire quickly. Expansion?....have never recovered one, they go in one side, wreck stuff up, and go out the other side.

Update on performance of 225 gr. Fury’s this year with MV’s ~2450 fps distances 75 to 200 yards.
The 225 gr Fury results in very dead deer - wish I would have taken some pictures but forgot all about it. Upon entry they have devastating damage. Way more than I expected. Bullet then continues on through and exits. Only had one that didn’t - large doe that was shot straight on and found what remained of bullet just inside hide of hind quarter.
Overall thoughts great bullet with good BC. Compared to 195 gr Barnes these cause just as much, if not more initial damage and hang on better at longer distances. For a sabot launched bullet in .45 would be tough to find better for deer in my opinion.

I've had excellent results with that bullet as a bore rider the past two seasons.
