Good morning,
I have been reading posts here for a couple years now, but I am in need of some help. I have a professionally built buy a reputable builder custom smokeless muzzleloader. I have been told that the .50 caliber barrel from green mountain barrels it has, is designed to be used with the same published loads as the now discontinued Savage 10ML also its built on a Remington 700 stainless short action and uses the arrowhead rifle breech plug and ignition. The issues is he has since changed carriers and I am unable to reach him with questions now. The gun shoots well, I was able to clover leaf 3 shots last year when sighting in at 120 yards for deer season. 44 grains of AA5744, large rifle primer, a sub base, and the Remington premier expander 50 cal 250gr. I love the gun, thing is a hammer i have shot 3 nice bucks with it and all 3 dropped where the stood. Now my problem is I can not find the powder or the 250 grain Remingtons.
I see on the forum here a lot of guys are using the Harvester sabots, would this replace the sub base or what is the purpose of them?
I have tried the Hornady 250 gr sst and they don't group near as good for me. Any recommendations on other powder, or do i need to get some of the harvester sabots?
I know there’s alot of info in the forums here but I’m nervous to shoot something without being told it’s specifically for my gun as I am very new to the smokeless front loader, I am strictly worried about it from a safety stand point.
Thanks in advance for any advice you may have, sorry for the lengthy post.
