I've had my savage for 10 years or so and never had a minutes problem till last fall. It seems to randomly shred sabots causing the bullet to fly of target by feet. Shot 16 times last two days and 4 times completely missed the target. Found shredded sabots each time. My load is pretty standard. Accurate 5744 45grains, winchester 209 primers, Harvester red high pressure sabots, 250 grain TC Shockwave bullets. Changed out the ventliner with no effect. Tried waiting 10 minutes between shots..same thing. Any help would be appreciated!

Mine does the same and has for years! What works for me is to give the bore 200 strokes with a mild abrasive compound, then she's ready to act normal until the next time it happens. Also, in the mid-sixties temps that we have been having in these early mornings when I shoot, I wait 10 minutes or preferably longer between shots. Heat is definitely your enemy. Good luck, BOB

try giving the bore a good scrubbing with JB paste, might have plastic residue built up

What you’re describing appears to be a bore fouling issue. In order to shred a sabot the pressure has to escape confinement behind the sabot skirt. I recommend you give the bore a real good cleaning to start with.

Thanks for the replies. I'll start off with a good bore cleaning and giving it more time between shots. Thanks guys
