Been waiting for cooler weather and it arrived this weekend..I had let this farm rest for a couple years and that decision has really paid off! The trees were alive with squirrels cutting nuts and barking in every direction...I may have waited to long to hunt this place...I have killed 15 squirrels in the last 3 morning and 14 of them were males...all but 2 were adults..and several were castrated...a clear sign the population is to high as mature males are going into the nests and castrating the young males...thats got to hurt! lol ...I have been using my CZ 452 Mach2..what a laser! If i can see them they are going to die..I ranged one at 67 yards and aimed center mass of his skull and squeezed it off..upon recovery it had entered just below his ear..

That seems like the perfect round for a squirrel. Fast enough to not worry about aiming a tad low or high at sane squirrel ranges. Much authority as well in a small package. My 17 HMR break barrel with the 6.5 x 20 Leupold can shoot some WOW groups out to 100 yds. What load are you using? There are a few different loads right? I prefer the 17 gr black plastic tipped ones. Don't have a box right in front of me to give you the exact name. The Mach II is about 500 fps slower but at over 2000 fps, it's very fast for a squirrel gun! You gonna pressure cook them?

V-Max red tip at 2100 fps...CCI has a offering as well..Remington did but I dont now if they still do..Eley once did and was my preferred ammo but they quit making it...a d**n shame..as far as cooking squirrels? Old and tough get pressure cooked and the young are pan fried slowly..

I have heard they are excellent rifles. Nice mess of fox squirrels. They are indeed excellent rifles...if you ever get the chance to pick one up get a 452 model and you will not be disappointed...

While territorial fights between males can lead to injuries, there's no evidence squirrels intentionally castrate each other. The injuries you might be seeing could be from other causes.
