I called MMP today. They are sending me some samples of the 45/357 sabots. I already got some Fury .358 180gr. and Hornady 180gr. XTP. I figured since I already got the bullets, might as well get a few sabots and try them.

I hope they work for you. I never had much luck with that large a variation between the bullet and bore size. 50 and 45s worked, 45 and 40s worked well together. When I went with what you are after I was not successful. That was years ago, hope the new sabots and materials work well for you. Keep us posted.

I wonder if 40/357 sabots are in the future?

Look forward to hearing your observations. Whoops I misread your post. I will also try a 40-50 sabot.

A 40/357 would have interest to me also.

Thanks for the encouragement. Everything I have read has been that it doesn't work. I have only heard/read of only one maybe two people that was successful with it. We shall see...

First off I admire your courage to try something new. I consider this as part of a learning curve for SML. I have previously failed with getting a 50 to shoot 40Cal bullets but that has not discouraged me to keep trying. Each failure has revealed something I need to look at. I wish you well with your endeavor.

For me, trying 45/357 would not be worth the effort after failing at trying to get 50/40 to work. 45/40 works too well and is too easy. What I would like to try is a 40/358 sabot in a fast twist 40 cal barrel, shooting a real 35 cal bullet like a 200 grain Accubond....that would be interesting!

I thought since I have a 35 full and smooth forming dies, I would do some tinkering with the fit.

Apologies for reviving an old thread… But I am curious. Did you ever get it to work?

I did try a cva optima v2 50 cal muzzleloader with a 50x40 sabotand a 180 grain hollow point bullet with 80 grains by measure of bh209 powder.I sighted it in at 50 yds and needless to say I was rather impressed.3 shots inside the lid of a soup can. Good luck on your experiment.Always nice to try something new.

I shot 5 to test and 4 of those were in 1 ragged hole with a single round hust outside of the other 4. At 100yds

I tried about everything load wise and bullet wise and never had any luck with the 45x357 sabot bullet combinations. Good luck and keep us posted with your results.
