My farmer buddy called this past Tuesday to inform me that the deer depredation permits were in!! I ran over to his place and picked them up the same day...I have been waiting for a long time to try out the 143 grn.ELD-X....I had read that the ELD-X did not have a thick enough jacket for close range shots under a 100 yards...I put 4 on the ground...ranging from 75 yards to 276 yards....3 of the 4 did not take another step with no exit...mid to high shoulder shots....the 2nd one killed was a hard quartering away shot at 75 yards..it caught a rib going in and utterly destroyed the heart and exited...it ran approx. 40 yards...I am always amazed that a deer can take that kind of hit and run any distance with the heart blowed out! The blood trail was insane! My son was running his .243 and the 90 grn. ELD-x...same results 2 deer...DRT...it appears that in this initial hide testing that the ELD-X is going to work just fine! Having said that I am loading up some Nosler 142 grn. Accubonds and some Sierra 140 grn.Gamechangers with RL16 to try as well...I love this real world testing! No pics this time as we had to get busy skinning and filling coolers! I have a new ShotKam I need to try out...

I have heard those ELDs are good bullets. Glad to get real world results. Happy that you could find those bullets, ammo etc. is tight. Glad I do not have to clean 4 deer in this heat but you two have it organized. Keep reporting.

I like the high shoulder shot myself when it is available. Usually anchors them right there.

Have tried 4 different powders and something in the 2800 vicinity gives great accuracy.. 10 ga I have been kicking myself for not jumping on a bulk buy on them when I had a chance.. I had just started reloading for the 6.5 and wanted to make sure they shot good before committing…I have jumped the gun before and my reloading bench can attest to that lol.. I have tried R16 and 142 grn Nosler Accubonds with great accuracy…I will be getting some hair tests here shortly…I was finally able to get my son some Lapua brass for his .243…pretty excited about this as I have never ran Lapua brass before
