What would be help full things to do for your deer herd to get them through this hard weather ( crusted over snow and more on the way)

Cut some woody browse and kill coyotes.

I saw 8 deer today. Four at about 40 yards. A doe and 3 yearlings. I was surprised with the harsh winter how good they looked. Could not really tell a great deal of difference from 3 months earlier. I am sure the last 3 weeks here in Ohio have been a bit tough on the weaker ones.

My pond levy. Taken from my dining room window.About 19-20 Feb, 2021. Corn Also taken from the dining room window but across the pond. Another corn pile. Season is still in thru Feb 28. Still have 1 tag, but this would be murder, not sport.

Looks like a nice pond. The deer as far as I can tell look pretty healthy also. It will not be too long before things will green up and life will be easier for them. My kids want a pond at the farm. Have deep ravines so it would not be hard to dam one side but most seem to take a lot of maintenance. I have nearly 3/4 mile of river front but they still want a pond. They are not here to take care of it though. Must be nice to look out the window and have that nice view from your house. I have a nice view also but have to drive 42 miles to see it.

Thank you. Our house is about 50 yards from the pond. 5 acres.

SW
Those are some really nice pics taken in a scenic country side environment. Like you I wouldn’t have the heart to shoot any of them and enjoy their presence. Thanks for sharing the view.

Where I live it is illegal to feed deer. The explanation is that when deer are close together and hovered over a bait/feed pile, they can touch each others noses and other facial parts and posssibly transmit disease like chronic wasting disease. If that is true, and I am no expert, I would not concentrate the food in one area/pile. Maybe broadcast it over a large area and force them to "forage" for it. If I thought I needed to help them, I would take that approach.
