I do not have one but have they ever become popular. Recently near the top of the list in ammo sales etc. I have been told. Still can't use bottleneck cartridges here in Ohio. If we did I would be happy with my .243 but the .264 bullet and cartridge have a lot to offer. You did not go wrong by getting one. Depending on what you plan to use it for I think you were wise to go the 6.5 vs the 300 WSM.

I am keeping the 300 WSM in the safe in case the day comes that I or my son want to bear, elk, or moose hunt...I have some Hornady EDL-X 143 grain Precision Hunters coming for the barrel break in...they come highly recommended in the 1-8 twist Predator rifle...I will enventually hand load for it.

It's an easy round to load and the accuracy potential is fantastic. 180 gr Sierra and 4350 (H or IMR) work well. While not a plinker shooting a box at the range isn't too bad. If you change your mind give me a holler.

I picked up a 6.5 Creedmoor Ruger Predator last year, H4350, Hornady brass, CCI LRPs, and a couple different boxes of bullets. I worked up a Satterlee 10 round load developement for it to find a velocity flat node with the 143 ELDX and then played with the seating depth a bit to get down to just under 1/2" @ 100 yards. I then moved on to the 127 LRX Barnes and did the same thing. That produced a 0.16" group @ 100 yards. I loaned it to my Dad for deer season last year and he was not fortunate enough to get a shot at anything. I need to revisit the ELDX to see if I can fine tune the seating depth to try to reduce the group size more like the LRX.

Well.its going to shoot! I mounted a Zeiss 3.5x10x44 RZ600 on it...not enough glass to do this round justice but it will work for now until I decide which FFP scope I want to go with..the accutrigger broke cleanly at 2.75 pounds so i left it alone...first shot with out bore sighting hit 2 inches right of center at 50 yards! I love it when I get lucky! lol I adjusted and went 100 yds and got the following group with Hornady Precision Hunter 143 grn ELD-X...picked up the depredation permits yesterday...going to get out today or tomorrow and fine tune at 200 yds.

Tell me how it compares to your .243 after you have had some experience with it.

Tell me how it compares to your .243 after you have had some experience with it. I sure will...it will be used all summer and late into the winter....with a 1-8 twist I will be trying bullets in the 130-140 class as well...my bud suggested I start with the 143s and that they would shoot well...he was right again.

I got the savage 110 in the same configuration as you. Worked it out last year for my WY antelope hunt. Best accuracy was with Hornady 143 ELD-X in Norma, Nosler, Federal or Win brass, didn't seem to be any measurable difference. Found that 43.5 grains Superformance powder worked great but would heat the barrel fast. Shooting 2 groups of 2 shots with barrel cool time between groups it gave great accuracy, hunting simulation. Next best bullet was the 140 grain SST, only .25 moa difference. Was under moa out to 400 with both bullets. Got my antelope at 320, DRT. Tried a bunch of powders and the Superformance was best for me. Tried bunches of bulets = Berger, Nosler, Sierra etc...= and the Hornady 143 ELD-X gave the most consistent performance. Now I only have 60+- 143 ELD-X left and can't find any more. OH well, have 250 rds loaded and ready to go. Figured I shot 600 rounds getting what suited me. But now have the load that I like. Never been a big CF shooter but that 6.5 beats my 308 and 17 Rem by a long shot. Of course the 17 Rem is strictly an under 250 fur shooter and is great at that. Good shooting and safety 1st. 10 ga

well I just got a CVA Scout stainless in 6.5 CM and bought a talley scope rail in 7075 alum. and a leupold vx freedom 4-12x40 for deer hunting around here. It will be a week or so before I get the scope mounted and a possible bore lap done. bought two boxes of the new norma whitetail loads with 140 gr. soft points to try.

Perhaps if you test sight it in you will find you do not need to lap the bore.

Jim has a valid point ..if memory serves me correctly Bergara now makes their barrels..huge improvement over old CVA era barrels...if it is a 1-8 twist it will be fond of 140-142 grn. Projectiles

fired the scout some the other day with a shakey rest at 100 yds and the 140 gr norma whitetail load did better than the winchester 129 gr power point with a 2" group. I couldnt get the crosshairs still sitting in my truck and using the mirror as a rest, somebody moved the picnic table I had been using.

Kip ! The most important thing to start testing a new rifle is a solid bench rest ! Get a Caldwell or Hoppe's front rest and a rear bag . At worst use the tailgate of your pickup and sit on a 5 gallon bucket . If you got a 2" group , a front rest and rear bag will amaze you . Best of luck .

mrbuck, thanks for that info. I knew better but was just dying to fire off a few. I am disabled with a rare nerve disease and each year when I get to shooting it seems I have to go to more measures to get steady. I have all the rests and bags etc. my issue is more my core strength instability affecting the rear of the gun. I did get a good 40mm carbon tripod and a pig saddle clamp rest for this next season. I did smooth the bore on this gun some and also touched up the crown which was basically nonexistant. On these scouts in stainless I havent had a real smooth bore yet. my wolf smoker and cva hunter 20 ga slug gun were super polished bores. I think bergara has slacked up on us a little but with a little tlc they will shoot great, I just don't want to fool with alot of copper fouling is why I smooth them up some.

I'm getting older and each year I also must work at getting good groups . Just not as steady anymore .

I have a new 6.5 Creed, a keg of R16, and 300 of the 142 LRABs. That was the combo I was going to start with but have not got around to it yet.
