This will just be for occasional fun and no extreme range at all. So weight and fixed power is not a concern. When my vision was better i would looked at other options but i like the specs and price of the SWFA SS 20x42. About $307 shipped to me sounds pretty good considering it supposed to be super tough and good eye relief. Has anyone beat one of these to death yet on a SML? www.swfa.com/swfa-ss-20x42-tactical-30mm-riflescope-3.html?___SID=UProbably get these rings if they will fit my bases. Pretty sure they are Warnes or Leupold 2 piece steel bases. www.swfa.com/swfa-ss-tac-30mm-1-rings-6.html?___SID=U

Sorry I can't be much help here with what your inquiring about. I usually look at a scopes clarity and recoil endurance. Also my scopes are 12X and lower for up to 200yd shooting. But what really got my curiosity is what you're going to put it on?

Savage Pacnor 45cal These scopes are very similar to the old Tasco Super Sniper made for the US armed forces. SWFA bought the rights to them years ago. They are known for being really tough scopes. swfa-ss.com/historyRumor is they are made at Light Optical Works in Japan and the Kenko factory in Japan. This 10x42 side focus is nearly identical to the US contract scope and still sold today to various combat units and US police/swat units. More or less its the M-21 or XM-21 10x sniper scope www.swfa.com/swfa-ss-10x42m-tactical-30mm-riflescope-3.html?___SID=U

It sounds like the scope is well constructed and advertised of handling 50Cal recoil. If it was me I would go with the 10x42 that should still give you a reasonable "field of view" for deer hunting.

No plans to use it for hunting but i am considering the 10x42 side focus version that cost $100 more. My hunting rifle might get one of the Razor HD LH scopes if they still have them when im ready. I found a deal on those for $450ish in 2x10x40 1" tube. Much lighter scope. I dont shoot nearly as hot of load from that rifle and lower weight is a priority. That rig is only about 7lbs now and i want to keep it light.
Ive read SWFA has black Friday sales on the SWFA SS. Usually just a bundle deal with ring/caps/sunshade ect.
I just grabbed a DiamondBack HP 3x12x42 1" tube for $200 shipped. Sportmans still has some left. Nice scope for the money but its a little bit heavy. Same XD/XR glass as the lower end Vipers. Better eye relief than current Diamondbacks and most others too. I hate the reticles on the Tactical line and those are $150 more. Its going on a Knight Super DISC 45. If i could find a deal like that on the HP 4x16x42 i would just role with that and hope it holds up but MidwayUSA sold out on them.

Heard of one 3-9 being sent back. My 5-20 SSHD has over a 1000 shots on it with no problems.

Yeah ive read tons of reviews on them and 2 things standout. Nearly bullet proof. Extremely few failures. Great tracking for a scope anywhere near that price and better than many of them. Really high adjustment range. Over 110 MOA on most and some as high as 140. Not really something i got to have but nice. I can probably get by with less than the 20x42. Just makes it easier when i dont have a spotting scope handy. I can still see holes very well at 100 with a 16x and maybe even less. Eyesight went to hell after 45 unless its really bright outside. The cheap public range i can use has concrete covers over it to stop stray bullets. The shadows make it hard to see on my Omega at 9x and even worse on my 2x7s. Super durable and close to 4" of relief are the 2 most important things i want. 12x-14x on high would be nice. Variable power is not required. My Pancor loads are nothing extreme but its a piece of mind knowing my bases are probably covered well. Its just for occasional fun so spending a fortune on a scope is not in the budget.

Anyone tried the TRACT scopes yet on SMLs. The specs are excellent and the 3x9x40 starts at just $400. Next 2 models up with side focus are around $700-750. All the Toric and Turion models have Schott HT glass and made in Japan. tractoptics.com/riflescopes
