Good Evening, How many of you either dump your powder or shoot you rifle after hunting in the rain? Do you need to do so with a smokeless gun?

I always put a 6 inch round balloon over the barrel before I go out in the snow or rain.Cheaper than shooting everytime you come back in.

I just spent 5 days in a roll that it rained everyday on an elk hunt and on the last day pulled the trigger and dropped an elk at 402 yard. I did have a finger of a latex glove that I cut off and put over the barrel.

Electrical tape over end of barrel . not very pretty but keeps rain out ant let's u know it's loaded so u don't accidentally double load it.

I have risked it in the past, never been burned, but anymore I unload after a sit in rain. Also use a barrel condom or latex glove to protect from moisture in the barrel.

Is there ever a problem with rain/moisture entering through the breech bolt area? Primer getting wet? Do you have to cover this area up in the rain? Thank you.

I use the black tape on my barrel and when not hunting a dead prime in the breech plug. I have only fouled the powder after soaking the breech plug to clean the carbon. I did not blow it dry I let it set to dry but the solvent around then vent liner soaked into the powder. I have hunted a week in the rain with tape on the barrel and it fired first time when needed.
