For the 7th year in a row, we have hooked up with our landowner buddy in New Mexico and got an Antelope Tag. I can't afford it this year, but I'm selling some assets to get to go. I just can't see jeopardizing this wonderful relationship----it's too good of a deal to let go to someone else. This guy gives the money to his wife, and they both love all of us and it's one of the most fun trips I have ever imagined, if a bit squeezed into just a few days.
September 12-13......not long and I can't wait.

What a great hunt. The landowner we hunt on had way fewer goats than ever, but there were some. It took all day of looking, but finally got a shot at a good one. Got this one in a full run at warp 9....rolled him up like a 6 year old on a bike wreck with one shot, right before he dived off a steep embankment into a gorge and was gone. Lucky shot. Well that Tikka .270 does some amazing things on its own. If I could ever give it some help, no telling what it might be capable of. He fell 10 feet from going over the edge of this dropoff. Here's a pic of the area. Look closely and you can see the drop off about 10 feet in front of me. Behind me was the big field that he ran across. He crossed in front, and I never looked away from the scope but I imagine he was not more than 120 yards when he crossed in front of us and I fired. It was about 45 minutes before dark, so I was double lucky. Not brave enough to take my muzzleloader antelope hunting in rifle season, but I could have hit this one with Betsy, no problem. He's not as fat as I am, but I'll take him. Long, long, hectic weekend. But I'm a happy camper.
