I used to own some of the Elite 4200 series, they were "just ok optics" and they were top of the line at the time. Sold them because there are much better options for the same price point and havent owned any Bushnell products since.

No experience with the new. I have a number of 4000, 4200 and 3000 series over the years. Decent enough scopes, I think I got it for the anti fog or water beading ability. I do not have quick release rings generally so they are dedicated to a particular firearm. Way more money invested than I care to know. The unfortunate thing is what years ago was top of the line to a fair degree has been overshadowed by newer, better quality glass, features etc. Am I going to change out what I have, probably not. Not a deal breaker for what I do. To respond more directly to your question, I do not have the new series. I have found you generally get what you pay for and should expect the same. A lot of deer are taken with modestly priced scopes, one does not need a $2000 to do it. The high dollar scopes have their attributes, I guess especially if your life depended on your scope but mine doesn't and the older works pretty well for me. I have found some good used older scopes for nearly give away prices. Something to consider.

Before smokeless I blew 2 Trophy XLT scopes apart. I do have a Bushnell Trophy X30, 2.5-15X50 LR600i & it has been an awesome scope. I’m not a Bushnell fan per say as the rest of my scopes are Leupold VXR’s & Burris Veracity. I bought this scope just to play with & put it thru it’s paces. I liked it so much that I’ve kept it. The glass in the X30 is very close to those scopes I mentioned (at least to my eyes) & the illuminated reticle is the best one I’ve seen so far, but I haven’t had an Athlon MIL to look thru yet. It tracks well & holds zero. The turrets are a little mushy but since I’m not a competitive shooter it doesn’t matter to me. This scope will run about 280.00. The reviews have been awesome & although I haven’t been able to prove the connection, I suspect this may be built for Bushnell by Styrka. This would compare to their 7 series if I’m right. This is really about the only Bushnell I’d consider without going to their top of the line models.

Have Bushnell Elites on ALL of my firearms. The Glass is every bit as good as others in their price range as well as their tracking ability. Dependability is rugged enough to withstand years of abuse on Savage and other SML's without a one ever having a hiccup... The Rain Guard coating is what sets them apart from the others in their price range...It makes all the difference in Rain/Sleet without needing lens covers.. They are hunting scopes not "target" scopes...They are as dependable as they get, and IME the "Rain Guard" has enabled me to take several shots in the nastiest weather here in Ohio during MZ season that simply weren't possible without it.
Try one in January and see what I'm talking about...
The Old Banner's were Bushnell's top of the line but that model name has since fallen back a little although the coatings and glass are still pretty decent. The Trophy line has always been low quality IMHO and have yet to have one I thought was clear or last very long. Sportview of course are budget scopes and usually don't last long on much of anything beyond rimfire..
Apples to Apples....The Elites are just as good as comparable Leupolds/Vortex's etc...The lower end models need compared to Simmons Weaver etc in the same price range...

I have 2 4200s: 2.5x10 40 mm, 6x24 40 mm. The lower powered one has been shot on many MLers, xbows, 270, etc. 1000s of shots - still like new. Glass is comparable to a VarX 3. The other has lived its life on a 22-250 AK IMP but is going on my 40 cal smokeless MLer. They have been excellent scopes. I’ve ruined more than 1 3200.
Concerning quality scopes, used has its merits. I bought 1 used and 1 new Zeiss Duralyt lighted 2-8. $500 ea. Can nearly see in the dark. Until I used a really great scope: Nightforce 3.5x15 and the Duralyts, I just didn’t understand. On my top xbow and smokeless MLer, I plan to have the best glass I can afford. Likely, for a while, it’ll be these 2 Zeiss scopes. Likely forever. Those last minutes are so important.
