I've read some on how people have had their crowns cleaned up or re crowned because factory crowns are not always good. I have a Remington 700 SPS Varmint in 243 shooting around .5-.75 moa @ 100 yards and have not really had a chance to run it out farther to see if it carries the same moa farther.
If I had the crown, re crowned by a good smith would I gain anything? What are the reasons for re crowning a rifle? What all is down when you have your barrel re crowned other than working on the muzzle end, is the barrel taken off re crowned and then put back on action? If that's the case is the barrel and action then mated together better than factory so to speak therefore your rifle gains accuracy?
My Remington isn't anything fancy but just thought I might tinker with it a little more.

Most smiths won't need to remove your barrel from the action to work on the muzzle end. The only way you will gain from a recrown is if your original crown was not concentric to the bore, which is probable. If the rifle shoots ok but not great, it might be worth a try to see what you gain. If the rifle is a turd it will likely remain a turd barrel IMO.
In your case you are probably approaching the best case scenerio of a newer production rifle. A recrown won't hurt as long as it is done with equal or greater care than the original job.

If its shooting that good out of the box I would not be concerned about the crown.
You could have a brake installed that will tame the recoil to a 223 level. If the gunsmith feels the crown needs touched up he can take care of that also while he has it. For the price that guy ^^^^ charges for a Harrels brake install you can't go wrong.

I had a 22-250 started getting inconsistent groups had it checked out I had hit the crown and done some damage he cut it back 1/4 inch and recrowned it but that was to fix damage where I had hit it on something
