We can hunt with them in NC but getting a Sheriff to sign off on the application for ATF is impossible. Guys are having to work around the Sheriff's by setting up trusts. d**n shame Hollywood has convinced everyone that these are "silencers" used by assassins and other criminals. I'm not sure I'd want to drag one around the woods but they are neat at the range. With sub sonic rounds you don't really need hearing protection if you are alone.

Don Silencer shop out of Texas will do your simple trust for 120 bucks. Do it soon because ATF change laws and you'll have to be fingerprinted and the sheriff will have to sign off. My understanding is if you get it done before the law goes in the affect you'll be grandfathered in.

Actually, after the new law goes into effect (41P), you will no longer have to have the sheriff sign off on your form 4, all you will be required to do is notify them that you are purchasing it. You will have to send in a photo and a fingerprint card, but you will no longer have to get your sheriffs permission.

But the last I heard Sheriff John Ingram (R) here in Brunswick County can't read that well. So far no one has challenged the Sheriff in court which is going to have to happen to force him to comply with the legislation. And I think Moose Butler in Cumberland County has been one of the leading proponents of the "we won't sign" Sheriffs movement here in NC. Do you know if he is now signing them? Don

I'm not sure. I'm in Hoke and I've had full support from Sheriff Peterkin in obtaining signatures for my FFL, CHL, and I expect he will sign my Form 4 but I'll let you know. I am getting a couple of cans, one for SML and one for CF metallic rifles.

After July 13th, when ATF-41P goes into effect, there will be no more signature requirements for anyone.

Yeah well our local Sherrif is turning out to be very much hard to deal with on even handgun permits. Johnston county has an online site you go on, fill in your info and they issue your permits in two days max. Wilson is a 10 business day paper application. Total and utter BS from the sheriff here. I wish the abolition of the idiotic pistol purchase permit system in NC would have gone away a couple of years ago....these sheriffs are no better then the liberal gun grabbers and they are suppose to be on our side.

You can start holding your breath. Governor Branstad is signing the bill into law tomorrow at 3pm in Brownell's parking lot.
