Gentlemen, I'm new to muzzleloader shooting and I'm hoping you can help me with a couple questions that I haven't found an answer to online.
Im shooting a 50 caliber Knight disc extreme with Bh 209 powder. I have a number of saboted bullets that I've tried with good success but I'm really interested in shooting cast bullets. Specifically, patched round ball and the Lee Real 250 grain bullet (I bought the mold).
So here's my questions; 1) Is it necessary to use lube on the patches for the round ball? Does it help with sealing or is it only needed to soften powder fouling when using black powder? Remember I'm using Bh 209. 2) Is lube needed in the grooves of the Lee Real bullet? Again, will it help with sealing? If lube is needed can you recommend a lube compatible with Bh 209? I'm cleaning the bore and breach plug with Hopes #9.
Thanks for any advise you can offer. Frank

Yes lube the patches. Run the round ball slow, under 1600 fps and you might get good accuracy. Yes lube the REAL bullet. I have always used Crisco for lube on Maxiballs and patches. Put a wad of newspaper under the patched RB and the lubed Real bullet to help keep the lube and powder separate.
