Just got it in the mail this morning a 45-70 encore SS 20" barrel converted by Slufoot. I would like to commend Slufoot on the job he did. I hooked it up on the frame and was curious as to whether it would shoot as the breech plug looked like it was set back I put a Federal 209-A primer in the breech plug and it fired beautifully So I mounted a Redfield 4-12X42 on it now all I need now is the thumb hole stock which I am going to order from Boyd's As soon as I get my camera working again I will post pictures

I've got an Encore ProHunter slufoot SML conversion and it is a MOA gun. You'll like yours. I do love the thumbhole stock. I have a similar scope too, a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 on it. Great shooter, but thinking about selling, just don't have a chance to shoot it much with all my other SMLs/MLs. Here's a pic:

That is a beauty I would have liked to have a longer barrel but seen the 20" F S on the sight where I hunt in Delaware most of my shots will be under say 250 yards I can't wait for the stock set to arrive from Boyd's I got the Forest Green Laminate I don't think they come with bolts I wonder what length I will need for the stock and fore arm? I know some one that has the same rig and he shoots 10/SR-4759 and 48/H-4198 with a 250 grain bullet.

I've only shot my ProHunter SML with sabots.
With 56, 57 or 58 gr of IMR4198, Lt blue sabot (both smooth and crush ribs) using Barnes 195 MZ or 200 gr SST, it shoots MOA if I do MY job on the trigger end.
It's a 24" TC stainless ProHunter barrel.
I've used the same duplex load you mention in my Apex, but not the ProHunter yet.
Now that I'm set up to resize bullets I may try sabotless with the ProHunter (if I don't decide to sell it).
Sabotless has gone pretty well with the Apex.
That forest green laminate has a very nice look, you'll like it.

What size sabots do you use and do you use 40 cal bullets. Never thought of trying sabots just using bare bullets

What size sabots do you use and do you use 40 cal bullets. Never thought of trying sabots just using bare bullets Like most of the guys, I use the Harvester light blue 45/40 sabots. Most guys like the smooth sabots, but I've had good luck with the same set up in the crush rib version. For bullets I use the Barnes MZ .40 cal 195's or Hornady .40 cal 200 gr SSTs. (PS. That's a pretty model 12 you're selling)

The model 12 is a very nice rifle I am just trying to free up some money. I haven't shot it for a couple years. It shoots good but it could shoot better if I had tried to work up a load for it but I have so many, and I have my favorites. Now that I am back into Shooting and Hunting and with the purchase of some new SML'er I will be quite busy. I will have to try the combination you suggested Thanks Lou After giving it some thought I have decided to keep the rifle it's just too nice and shoot real good.

Like I said I really liked to have had a 24" barrel, Well right after I saw one FS on the sight I bought it. Just happened to have another Encore frame laying around. Now I need another stock the 24" barrel It has the place for a ram rod so I will order a muzzle loader fore end for the 24" I have an abundance of scopes so I am good in that department. I have to stop looking at that FS sight. Lou

"I have to stop looking at that FS sight."Me too, I bought my RemPac 700 there a few weeks back and was eyeballing your Savage 12. My gun above is a 24" TC SS barrel and it is a great shooter! You'll like yours!

The forearm in the picture IS a Tony Gettel custom pillar bedded forearm with air flutes (vents). The whole thumbhole stock and original matching forearm and matching muzzleloader forearm were EABCO items: www.eabco.com/encore3.htmlOr you could go to Tony's website and have him make you a complete custom stock & forearm set up: www.tonysforendsandgrips.net(I did decide to sell the gun in the classifieds here on Doug's and there is a complete description there)
