heres the recipe...03a3 trued action.. boyds thumbhole stock.. krieger 12 twist heavy varmint barrel piller/glass bed plus 1st 2" of barrel..timney trig set at 2#..leupold one piece base that i did a light bedding on to ensure uniform seating on a stepped receiver..vortex viper 4 x 16 x 30mm scope. sierra 52g hpbt..52g amax..55g vmax..60g vmax from .025 off to touching lands. imr4007ssc...varget..benchmark from starting loads to max. cci br2 primers..winchester std primers..federal std primers. winchester brass ran thru lee collet dies. having said all that shoots anywhere from the 3's to 1½..sometimes even with the same load. the only two things i can explain flyers with is too heavy of a barrel for that receiver or scope base problems. at the end of my rope with this one but hate giving up. anyone have a thought or two

1. What do groups look like? Shape can indicate some issues. 2. Who did the bedding? Some guns are easier to bed than others. 3. What mounts did you use? 4. Do you know your optic is good? 5. What sort of rest are you shooting from?

worked thru verticle groups. they re typically a cluster/circular pattern. i use leupold one piece base with leupy 30mm rings. i did the first and second bedding krieger did the third. i shoot of sand bags with rifle setting on point naturally with no input from me. i guess i failed to include in recipe- i have tried light cheek weld to no cheek weld light shoulder pressure to no pressure allowing free recoil.

With the work that's gone into the rifle I would think the barrel and bedding are straight. Round groups are a good sign.
The HV is a lot of barrel, especially on a Mauser or Springfield. Those two actions also have slow lock times and heavy firing pin impacts. I always fear that is detrimental to precision but I've shot some stellar groups with an '03 chambered in '06 that is bedded and uses a Timney trigger.

the locktime and overall mass of steel that is used for the complete firing pin assembly AND the weight of the barrel is what was lurking in the back of my mind. i did replace the firing pin with one from brownells or midway ( cant recall from where) that was sposed to improve lock time. i hate throwing more money at it but i also dont like giving up. my last hope would be having the barrel shortened to possibly reduce receiver stress. Jus remebered one more point...the firing pin hole isnt perfectly centered on the bolt face.....

Is this a .22-250 or Swift or what? Before I gave up I would move that barrel to a different action (because the HV has a 5" shank)and I would use that action to build a cool sporter.
