No bullet, just 5744 powder. Its been claimed on MML's forum (smokeless section) only about 40gr of 5744 caused this. On Facebook someone did say it was a double load 2xbullets and 2xpowder which i can believe. I find it very hard to believe that 40gr of 5744 and no bullet could even completely ignite let alone cause that much damage. I cant read Facebook since this one requires a login www.facebook.com/groups/205248626303622/ Someone named Berry further down the page said it was a double load according to someone i know thats on Facebook.

How in the world could just a powder charge of 40 gr with NO bullet do that. No way. No way!

Wonder what happened to the guy/gal that shot it? from the story being told on other sites..he lost his hand...but there are other posts he lost fingers..so not sure... this whole thing sounds crazy..if there is no obstruction in barrel as to a bullet ..how can the powder build pressure enough to cause this damage.. there is to many ways this story was told...it changes... It was also said on the other forum that the guy poured a "little" powder down the bore without measuring it. That alone tells me the guy wasn't paying attention or being safe throughout this whole process.

Wow . Someone was not following good table and loading procedures . Three bullets , three vials of powder , and three primers out at one time . Chris

The double load that Barry was talking about was a separate incident that occurred around the same time. Apparently 2 Savages blew up in Tennessee around the same time a few weeks ago.

Only thing I can see with no bullet and 40 grains of powder and if it would ignite you would get one hell of a flame thrower

No way it was just powder. I had a loose fitting sabot in my gun with 45gr 5744 and it just spit the projectile out 30 ft and powder just fell on the ground. Powder didn't even ignite.

Let's see, you have been away for 4 months and come home to find your girlfriend one month pregnant...is there more to the story edge.

This is BS. I've loaded by accident 2 powder charges of 44 grains each of 5744 under a Hornady 300 gr XTP. I was interupted at the bench by another shooter for 30 minutes. My stupidity. Upon discharge of this load, it nocked me off of the bench, punched my glasses into my eyebrow, luckily I grabbed the gun before it hit the cement floor.
No damage to the gun, only my ego.

Now wait a minute. Didn't Savage test the 10 ml II with a heavy load (not going to say how much) of red dot powder and TWO saboted bullets one on top of the other? The pressure was 156,000 psi, but stood the load. If the gun would stand this load I can't see one blowing up with the load of 5744 mentioned.
