The stock Savage 10-ML II I recently purchased has a ratively loose bore. Normal sabots load very easily. I ordered a size variety pack from Thor and only the largest required any force to load. Does anyone have a load recommendation for a looser bore Savage? At this time I haven't shot the gun enough to tell how well it performs with the easy loading ammo. By the way it's an older flattop without the accutrigger.

If you are using your rifle for hunting the .458 Hornaday Monflex bullet with black crush rib sabots works well if the regular sabots are too tight.

When I had my Savage it too had a loose bore. After 4 years of trying everything under the Sun,I finally found that the .458 300 gr. Barnes Original with a Harvester Black Crush rib and 67 grains of Reloader 7 was the ticket.................

Savage replaced my original SS barrel that was .5045". That barrel didn't shoot that bad with those size 250 Gr Thors with either 43 Grains of SR4759 or 46 Grains of AA5744. The only problem the barrel they sent me is marked 10ML-BP instead of 10ML-II which still worries me!

Since you're shooting saboted bullets, you might try rolling the bullets between a couple finer toothed files, to the point they are a two-handed push to seat. Try to get them all the same (I used to use calpers to make sure). I did this with under-sized Barnes bullets, and it shrunk groups from around 4" to MOA in a normal 10MLII bore. It may also work with your over-sized bore. Good luck.

You can also try the Harvester red crush rib sabot. It's a bit thicker than the blacks.
