Looking for hands on experience for recommending a cordless weed trimmer. I have read some reviews for a beginning point but hearing the whole story from actual users of specific brands would be helpful. Look forward to replies that will assist me in making a good choice.

I don't have one but what brand are you looking at? Allot of times I check reviews on amazon to see what I'm getting. Amazon 90% of the time has better prices also. Amazon prime you get free 2-day shipping also.
Good luck

My Black and Decker with a 20 Volt Lithium battery is really not that great ! Not that powerful to cut larger stems and the battery does not last . I cut a small front lawn one weekend and the back the next weekend using the trimmer for the edges . The battery barely lasts for the front or back . Please remember that I don't live out in the wide open spaces . My small ranch house sits on .53 acres so you can see I am not cutting large areas . Chris

Guys, thanks for the mentions. One page I was looking at for reviews is yarddude.com/what-is-best-cordless-weed-trimmer/You can also see why I ask the opinions from others and not just rely on reviews. The yard the trimmer will look after is what I consider a good size so battery life is an important consideration. Ed

I got the 58V Echo at Home Depot. Have used it a lot. I also have higher level Stihls. Obviously I mow a lot. 2 yards, slightly over 5 acres. I much prefer the electric Echo. The battery goes a full hour of usage. That's a lot of usage. 0.080" or 0.095" 12' of string very easily put on. Battery recharges in 1 hour. This is a heavy duty unit. $269. There is also a 21" mower(2 batteries), hedge trimmer, blower, and chainsaw. If I didn't already have all these, I'd get all Echo. With a couple of batteries recharging, regardless of what your're using, you'd never run out of power, unless you mowed with one hand and trimmed with the other. like walking and chewing gum.
I believe it just came out this year.

Rambler
Overall simplicity for lawn care.

And I thought 40V was max available. Learned something new and will have a look at their line of products. Thanks for the heads up.

Home Depot has both brands. I'd read reviews. The Echo is a robust unit.

I guess the battery operated units have come along way. They still have a long way to go to tackle my spread.
I got the wife a corded blower and hedge trimmers and they work pretty darned good, I've still got a set of gas powered trimmers and back pack blower.

Rambler, bet your wife has been really busy with all the rain you've been getting. A few years ago I got my wife a 26ho Huskvarna 54" mower for Mother's Day. I use exclusively non-ETOH gas for all non-automotive use. I try to use the same in my car and truck as much as practical. The Echo weed eater is much nicer to use than even my higher level Stihls. Just have to experience the difference.

They must of came a long waaaaaaaaay....the first and last battery operated unit I ran would puke and fall on its face in light to moderate stuff...it was a real struggle to get anything done.I run several commercial stihls and they struggle at times with what I do. I wouldn't even consider a battery operated one. They might be ok for every day light duty stuff for 1 yard but I currently mow 63 places....be hard to keep one charged up....lol

I doubt the Echo would be good for all day work, but for 1 full hour, it's great. The new 4cycle weed eaters sem to be doing well. I wouldn't judge the current Echo by the much weaker, and cheaper weed eaters.

I have an Echo 2 cycle that will just about take down a chain link fence, especially with .105MM line in it.

I have a small 1/3rd. acre yard. I have a couple year old 40 volt worx that I've been happy with. I'm sure what is available now is better.

Thanks to all for the additional comments. It appears I have some additional research I need to do before taking the plunge on a purchase.
