you can see marks around the prime.. works fine without a primer in it ... might need to smooth the breech plug a little??

Try a different primer (like Winchester 209 shotshell), for a possible better fit. link

The primer your using would not be your best choice i would definitely try using Winchester W209 primers and seems ive heard of primers sticking when firing primer only with no load and possibly may need to polish primer pocket in breech a little but first id get w209 primers and load and shoot see what happens.

Hey Worm,
Has this been resolved? I have several of these plugs in many different Knights. They all work well, however, I use Win 209 and shim them if needed to get a tight fit. Your Primer is probaly too fat.

If you run into that problem again, raise the bolt handle to cock the rifle, lower the bolt handle and pull the trigger on the fired primer. Sometimes another strike from the firing pin will free it up.
I agree on the Winchester W209 primers for these breech plugs, that is what they were designed to shoot. They have a tapered step part way up the primer, and have a smaller O.D. in the front. They are also longer than all the other primers which helps seal out blowback around the primer.

got the breech plug in today.. how can you get the prime out of it??? the bolt wont go back like it did before.. any ideas thanks michael Getting here late so... What primer did you shoot that got stuck? What breech plug is this one? If it was a Lehigh plug for a Knight you could have a couple of things going on. Early Lehigh plugs the primer pocket was not a large enough diameter and the shelf in the primer pocket was to deep. Another that can cause the primer to swell and stick is if the plug or flash is not open - the back pressure will swell the primer especially a mag primer. The newer Lehighs plugs were designed to take all American primers but primers based on the metric system for across the waters are to large in diameter and often get stuck. The plug is the cleanest using a W209 primer and if you are shooting BH with the Lehigh plug there is no need for a Mag primer. You do have to hand drill the flash channel in the plug out after 10-15 shots. Do not know if any of this is helpful - just throwing it out there.

Worm12I am a bit confused... You indicate you shot Win's 17 times - I hope with no problems and I think you are saying that you had to re-fire Fed 209A's twice to get them out. If it were the Feds hanging up I would suggest to you that is because they create so much pressure and the fact that they are slightly short for the primer pocket it does often cause this problem. The primer and the battery cup are pushed forward by the hammer and then the blow-back pressure of the primer or even the load then slams the primer assembly back into the face of the bolt. Because of this the primer assembly is topped by the face of the bolt but the primer in the battery being the heaviest continues to be driven in the firing pin hole on the face of the bolt. Lifting the bolt and re-firing causes the hammer to drive the primer back into the battery cup. This action then allows the primer assembly to fall out of the bolt in most cases. I would think if you want to shoot F-209A you will need to shim the primer pocket to get s slight crush of the primer when closing the bolt. Hopefully the Winchester primers did not cause this problem.... they could but most often do not. This picture shows a shim installed in the primer pocket to get the slight primer crush you need to stop your problem These are the shims that I use... The thickness of shim you might use is determined by which primer you choose to shoot. With the Lehigh or new Knight BP with the ventliner you do not need to use a mag primer to ignite BH powder. Hope some of this helps

You really should try a standard Win209 or shim the primer pocket for the Fed209As. Ive burned many bottles of BH209 in my Knights with the Lehigh designed plugs. Ignition and primer removal has been flawless with a regular Win209 primer. Ive used upto 91gr by weight and the 325gr FTX. Ive shot 84gr by weight and a 385gr bullet in my 54cal.

The load i quoted is for a Knight 52cal and i would consider it to be max or very close. It comes out to 130gr by volume.
