I have measured and it is the older style (4.275) not the newer style (4.40). However, when looking on Boyd's website, the spacing they use is 4.31 which doesn't make any sense seeing how it is neither 4.275 and 4.40. Was hoping someone on the site had experience with ordering the Boyd Featherweight stock from them and which spacing it would fit.

Go ahead and do the research that has been done here and rebarrel to a brux .458 barrell the upgrades have been tested, your mll2 can be stepped up a notch and be a topnotch shooter.... ,

Was this question ever answered? I want to buy both an older stock spacing and a newer one.

Think the situation calls for a phone call to Boyd's. I have called them a couple times on other matters, and they were helpful. Just explain the situation and ask what they have that will work.

I called Boyds several times and cannot get anyone to answer the question as to which version Gen II or Gen III that their stock will fit. Who on the board bought a Boyd's Stock for their Gen II muzzleloader and what if any modifications did they have to do?

Forget the generation lingo and talk spacing distance, there are a number of different scenarios with the ml2, I have talked to customer service a few times and measurements are the only thing that will get your question answered! jeff~

To clarify, I did talk spacing with three people at Boyds today, and a few others in earlier calls with them. It is my understanding thru this forum and Savage directly that the Gen II is 4.275" between action screws while Gen III is 4.40" between screws. The stock they list for Savage 10ML has a spacing of 4 & 5/16 which equals 4.3125". Plain and simple I asked them if the stock would fit my 4.275" spacing or not and they couldn't tell (sales, customer service or techs). They kept uttering that the stock measurements had to be the same. Ok, I get that but I am assuming that their one version of the Savage 10ml stock should fit one of the Savage 10ml models or they wouldn't be making and selling them, correct? I discount Gen I as it was only around for a short period with limited production but couldn't find the spacing either (I assume it was 4.275). So that would leave the 4.275 spacing which was produced the most years 2002-2009 or the 4.40 spacing that was produced 2010-2013. Can anyone add some insight on Boyd's Stocks for the Savage 10ml..... what to buy for 4.275 spacing that is drop in and go fit?

When they first came out with them, boyds sent me one as a sample (nice of them). I still haven't used it for anything. I just measured the spacing and came up with a 4.30" spacing.

Thanks LWH, have you ever tried fitting the savage into the stock? If so, how did it fit?

I'm with Jeff, I wouldn't get too hung up over the 4.30" spacing, it ain't worth getting your panties in a twist. Your going off what some guy measured on a stock at Boyds and face it. If they do not know that most 10MLs and a 10CF staggerfeeds are the same spacing it makes me wonder if the guy can use a caliper and do simple math.
If you install pillars your going to make up for it. Your only talking .025", if the bores on the pillars are 9/32" you have enough play. I do not go off the stock when drilling for the pillars anyway, I go off the action. About the only problem you have to watch is the trigger guard inlet, the rear screw has to go in the trigger guard
