Remember awhile back when Knight announced the BH209 plug on the Ultimate Slam would not interchange on the Extreme and Elite models? I do really well and it was frustrating.
It's no secret that i really like Knight Rifles. After speaking with Dave, we were talking about designing a plug that would achieve 100% BH209 ignition with very little blow back if any.
Now the time has come to start planning a test plug i should say. I figured it would be nice to hear some of your opinions or idea's on what you would like to see.
I do want to mention Dave is very qualified to do this. He has made the speed breech plugs for the T/C triumph for T/C. I believe another company out bid the job and he did not get the contract. So he is very qualified to make these plugs safe and effective for our Knight muzzleloaders.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping to be testing a plug sometime in June.

alot more costly than just a breech plug, new bolt (full lenth of existing bolt which would mean a longer firing pin) designed to put a savage type holder on the end of the bolt. This should put the bolt into the breech area. Use the basic design of the current NPJ conversion plug but shorten up the stem (even flat to the hex head if needed) so that the flash channel would be shorter, stick with the domed plug (to help with blow back issues) using the shorter channel should fix the hang fire issues.

I have two 45's that I would like to volunteer for the experiment. And a buddy of mine has a 50 that could be used also.

Should be a very marketable item; I was looking forward to the new design for my Disc Extreme.

grouse, wish you luck on that. I seem to think I heard that Knight was closing it's doors. This is a great time to come up with things for what was the begining of inlines m/l. How are your tests going on the Lehigh 200/.40? I'm looking forwards to hearing more. Talked to Dave he is shipping some tips to me. I can't wait to get to the range. Jon

Grouse, This is going to be long winded so please bear with me. You ask for ideas and I'm trying to help. I went to the range today and took the adapter out of the NFPJ conversion (I've done this once before using CCI primers they worked but stuck really hard after the shot). I've talked to knight service techs a few times here and there and they have indicated that Win primers is what they design around so I used them this morning. Using the knight 209 priming tool (the angled one) it went off without a hitch and blow back was some but not a lot. The spent primer always stayed in the BP and had to be pried out. The angle to hold the red jackets got in the road some but not to bad and I'm going to correct that in the morning by modifying an original bolt with a slot and try that. I've stuck the orginal bolt on a live primer the bolt length is the same MOL with the org being a hair tighter but that might help with the blow back. The only kick with tomorrows experiment will be I'll be using 777 and some power belts trying to smooth out this bore, it's as rough as a corn cob.

Tom.... Great idea!!!
The bolt on the Ultimate Slam, looks like the conversion is built right into it. When the bolt is locked, it puts quite a lot of force on the primer, to seal it. I think the length of the plug is very critical. I don't think I'm telling anyone anything they don't already know....
I was at Knight Rifles yesterday for a full tour and I had a chance to mess around with the Ultimate Slam, WOW what a nice firearm!!!
5/8" groups all day.... the shooting tunnel has BH209 bottles everywhere! Can you say testing???

Spitpatch: Did the guys indicate what they did to the Ultimate Slam to make it more accurate with BH209 ?
I know the b/p is redesigned... which would make ignition more reliable. Think they tightened the bore to a true .500 too ? (more like the T/C's)
