can you guys help me here? what exactly is the reason we dont shoot 44 mag. bullets out of our 10ml-II's ? is it because lack of accuracy? danger? pressure? in the manual provided savage does'nt say why not to use them. sorry if this is a worn out question. jk

8-)No question is worn out if there is an honest need to know.
The main reason for not using much 44 caliber bullets (which are really .429") is accuracy. Smokeless goes faster than BP so there is more stress on the sabot and with a thicker piece of plastic that make it harder to get a consistent result.
Many in fact believe in .458 bullets because they take up slightly more bore room than the normal pistol size bullet (.452 ). The difference is slight but may be noticed in some rifles. I have yet to hear of many Savage shooters move to .475 caliber bullets because normally .452 or .458 bullets work and also because the .475 bullet are limited in weight and form.

thanks, rb ,i've never had good accuracy w/.429 in any of my smokers either. always looks like a buckshot pattern , more so than a group. i like to reload for the 44 mag and have a mountain of bullets kickin around the are crying to be shot and was looking for another way to use them up. is there a sabot in production for the .475?

About 10 years ago I had a Knight .54 cal Black Knight and shot the Hornady .429 265 gr sabots and could bust walnuts at 100yds all day long with 90 gr Goex FFg...back then, that was about the best I got.

Accuracy can be had with .429 bullets, just not at the typical speeds we like to shoot them at.In search of working up a load for my 11 yr old daughter,I found them to be very accurate.@1500fps or so.They were also very prone to misfires...

i knurled a few 265gr. swc in .429 they went down the bore nice and tight w/ green harvester sabot. pushed them w / 41gr. of 5744. uh, lets just say there was no accuracy even at 45yds. maybe to much speed? put a 250gr. xtp w/ 44.5 gr. of n110 through the middle of the bull with the next shot!!!

is there a sabot in production for the .475? Yes you can get them from Cabala's but the bullet choice is ...well sucky.
