Has anyone tried any of the new Hornady flex tip bullets in sabots? What kind of results did you have? 10ga

By far the worst bullet i ever used. No blood trails at all. These were good shots behind the shoulder. I actually lost a Deer and needed help to find two of the other three. They just didn't work for me. I then used a 250grn SW and the results were alot better. Lot's of blood and the Buck only went about 40yards. I would not reccomend this bullet to anyone. A shoulder shot would probably produce better results.

what would you say is the difference between these bullet's and the SST? Other than the flex tip? In a video by Max product's they show the SST penetrate better in the ballistic gel than the SW..But that wasn't the flex tip. Drop

The SST and the SW are the same bullet. Now the flex tip i just heard today is a harder/stronger bullet.

I think they just changed the SW tip also..I am not positive of this... However last fall I bought up 120 of the SW as they were on clearance at a big box store. They were getting in the new replacement's I was told... I just bought 100 of the new FTX to shoot. Rossman40 told me they appeared to be the same bullet as the new SST... I sure don't want to loose any deer with this change. What were you using for a load? This past season I hit 2 Right behind the shoulder's 1 @ 123 yds and the other @125 yds. Biggest one went 60 at most with lot's of blood. Little one went 30 yds with lots of blood. That was with my Encore with 110 grn of 777 ffg. Do you think your's could have pencil hole'd? How close were they? Thanks drop

hi grouse i seen the video that drop is talking the sw broke apart real fast so he tried it again and got a little more depth but the sst went trough the 1st gel block almost to the end of the second i think the sst is good for hard shots quarter away, shoulder ect and the sw is more of a bomb someone would have to cut them apart and see jacket diff or lead hardness dif i thought they were the same also till i seen that test if you get a chance you should watch the video my friend has it now but if you want when i get it back i could send it to ya thanks

The SW is made by HDY and is the same as the SST. I have both and they look exactly the same to me. I do like the bonded SW.
I may be mistaken, but I believe the SST now has the flex tip as well. The older SSTs had a pointed tip made of hard plastic, but all the newer SSTs I've purchase were round tips like the flex tip bullets.

have you cut them open just because a bullet looks the same don't mean it is i have all three also and if i remember right they hit a little diff on target and also then grouses bullet change wouldn't of made a diff im telling you. Drop and i have seen the gel test and he did the SW twice it comes apart faster then the SST and the ftx grouses story tells you that. have you thought maybe they don't want to make them equal to sell to a diff company? do a test on water jugs and see what one goes thru more jugs. oh do they make a bonded sst? havent seen one but they make it for t/c its a different bullet also just a thought thanks. kevin

I really wonder if the FTX is a bonded version with a flex tip.

They impact the same for me in my Savage and Knight. It's nothing new, the SWs are the exact same bullet as an SST. They don't impact the same if you use the supplied sabot because one is not the same dia as the other. Shoot them both in HPH12s and they will shoot the same. The bonded version doesn't impact the same as it is slightly undersized.
The only differences are the sabot they come with and the qty. SSTs come with a HPH12, SWs do not have HPH12s packaged with them.
Chime in on the Savage forum, several guys used to buy them in bulk as blems.
If I had to bet money, I'd say HDY makes the bonded version for TC as well.
HDY makes bullets for other companies that rename them. Remington's Accutip rifle line is a good example.

I sure hope the reported poor performance on game isn't the norm. In experimenting with numerous loads in my Triumph the last (2) days, it shot the 250 gr. FTX w/Harvester Short Blacks into 0.890" using 110 gr. BH-209 and CCI primers.

I actually sold that Triumph to some lucky guy.

Give me a couple of days to round them all up and measure the jacket thicknesses.

I bought an all camo model now.

The one I bought from Chuck also is all camo; I really like it. I never thought I would prefer it to my Knight Disc Extreme, but its currently above it based solely on accuracy with multiple loads. Got to get back to my Extreme and fine tune some loads.
