I have a 45 cal DD bullberry Pac-nor encore barrel threaded for Pete's plug. I am experiencing a lot of blow by with the breech plug. My barrel is threaded such that the encore plug or the PR stainless plug with LRMP will not screw completely into the barrel. Any ideas for reducing blow by or alternative breech plugs?

Need more details: type primer? Where blowby by or through primer or through the threads? any cutting? If 209 what kind you try? how tight are the primers crush fit or loose? etc.... I have a extra SS Encore type Ryan plug for a 45 if you would need. PM if turns out out need. 10

Fed. 209A primer. I think the blow by is in the primer area. I have had one primer failure, it split down the side. My barrel is threaded from the face of the barrel so it does not have the shoulder that the normal encore barrels have. A PR plug will not screw into the barrel far enough to allow closing even without a primer or PR type carrier. I have seen no evidence of gas cutting. I am using Lehigh vent liners with the Pete's plug. I probably don't have 20 rounds through the firearm. Primers are tight in the plug but the action closes easily. Usually have to remove the primers by prying them out. Appears to be some carbon buildup in the bottom of the primer pocket. Dave D. suggested that I try some CCI and Winchester primers. Have not got to do that yet. I may have to try some of Bellim's headspace shims. Don't know if anyone else has tried the shims. I have a PR LRMP plug with the typical encore shoulder. I am considering removing the shoulder but I am concerned that I might get blow by through the threads if I do.

You could have your barrel clearanced for the pr plug to work properly if you wish to go encore plug permanently

What would be involved in having my barrel clearance?

Looks as if changing brands of 209 does not work that some smith work on getting plugs to fit may be necessary. Only other thing I can think of that might be an easy fix is O rings. 10 ga

I know O rings have been used by others but I have no experience with them. Seems I remember someone saying they only last for a few shots.
