Contemplating a .45 Remington build with my cousin and will be driving you guys crazy with questions. One I as pondering is if there is any reason you cannot tig a Hunters bolt nose onto the bolt instead of locktite  |

You could if you have a stainless bolt to start with I guess. If you haven't installed it yet you will find that it is also a pretty good press fit and it's never comin off if you simply add sleeve retainer.

The bolt noses are a press fit and most need nothing on them.
The Loctite is just added insurance.
I see no ill effects of tig welding it, just make sure everything is where you want it.
These were designed this way in case anyone wanted to change their gun back to #11 cap,
they could just drive it back off.

One I as pondering is if there is any reason you cannot tig a Hunters bolt nose onto the bolt instead of locktite Methinks ya might want to rethink that once you begin pressing the nose onto the bolt. I did apply locktite to the two I've done, but don't think either one would have needed even that. The first I squeezed on between the padded jaws of a vice, and it was a difficult squeeze. The second was done the same way, but the last 1/16" was a no-go. It had to be beaten on the rest of the way (between two pieces of hardwood). Have since gotten a 2-ton arbor press, but don't know if even that would have pressed that last 1/16". Press it on before getting the welder out. You just might be satisfied it will stay put. Not worried about either of mine slipping off! |
