Hello guys, you were right. One sml is not enough! I had Slufoot convert a 45-70 Encore.Great shooter, 60 gr. h4198 -200 sst- hsb sabot -2600 fps. Now I am thinking about a new build. I picked up a 700ml and thinking about building a sabotless.40 cal. After reading Earnhartd thread on pressures,I wonder if I can safely get 2800-2900 fps. with a 200 sst , or 2700 with a 240 CEB.? I have not seen much load data that included both velocitys and pressures. Also, would a power chamber be helpful on a 40 cal? I would probably go with a.400-.408 Mcgowen-savage bushing plug. I want to go sabotless, keep pressures safe , and improve performace over my encore. Thanks guys for your thoughts

Yes with the proper powder you can easily hit the speeds you are looking for and stay under 50,000 psi. I don't think a powder chamber can hurt anything but there are a lot of 40's getting started without them.

Im running the 240 Cutting Edges just under 2700 fps and the 200 SST's a little over 2700 fps with a duplex of 4759/Varget. There is a 40 load database that will get you started. You don't need a powder chamber.
Your not going to see any pressure traces. Just QL estimates from a few. TG does not have a .40 barrel to do them.

I agree with Myers and Omega and shoot some of the same loads as Omega, he has been my 40 cal mentor and knows the ins and outs of the 40 as well as anyone and Myers can put one together as well as anyone. So if you follow these guys you are headed down the road to being a happy 40 cal owner, I know I am.. best of luck
