Hunter has a bolt nose and breech plug kit that will get him shooting bh209 without anymore modifications. I believe the bolt nose is the same as the smokeless one now so if he decides to rebarrel someday he won't have to buy another bolt nose, better double check that with hunter.

Hunter bolt head conversion ,custom barrel with savage breach plug....Luke sells it all at Arrowhead.....conversion head 110.00,breachplug 35.00, barrel 350ish,....then you have custom, bedded stock, base, rings, trigger, scope, black ice coating, muzzle brake..etc....

Bare minimum to do smokeless and you would have to do the work yourself is $500 with him having the action already and putting it back in the factory stock with the factory recoil lug. From there you could spend $2000 for a wild build but I'd say most would run him about $1150 for a complete custom in a nice stock put together by someone on the board or a local smith.

If it is still a slam fire type of 209 kit I would say blackhorn is a no go but someone else might have real world experience to share with you.

It worked just fine in warm weather, but when Mr. Bucky was in the sights @ 30*F, it was a "no go". If he was to rework the breech plug by drilling a larger hole and install a vent liner, then maybe it would fire off BH209 in cold temps.

The Blowby/back still sucks and lets primer dust and who else knows back in your face and in the bolt....I hated how it shot from the factory and then it went under the bed for 8 to ten yrs....

I would get the kit that Hunter has using the longer smokeless nose and a shortened plug. This way his bolt is ready for smokeless if he ever wants to go that way.
