I tried out a new R&D bullet for Lehigh tonight. It's a .459 277grn bullet. Not the usual .458 bullet size we are custom to. Along with the the orange .458 MMP sabot this makes your loose bore 50cal ML a thing of the past. I was extremely happy with this combination in my Savage and Knight Muzzleloader. Below is a 200 yard target i shot tonight with my Knight Vision. If you have one of these loose bore Muzzleloaders you might want to try one of these bullets out. I believe you will be extremely happy.

Grouse thanks for the info and showing the group--if anything I have a 'tight-bore" and I mean tight!
Have a great day! Dave

Grouse.... did you try these in your Knight .50 Elite ?
I'm looking for a Lehigh bullet for mine with BH209... Maybe this new .459 will work.

I really think these bullets will shoot very good out of it. I just wish there were more options with .458 sabots. The Knight Vision shot them excellant. I think you will be happy and there on sale right now.

Grouse: Thanks.. I'll give Dave at Lehigh a call tomorrow about the new .459's. I tried the 250's.. they shot OK in my Elite, but I think the warm temps now are not conducive to range testing. .

I think you will find the 250 will shoot with 777 in your Elite. I think the fouling tightens up the bore. The .459 275grn might just be the answer with BH209 in a Knight Elite. Or a tighter sabot with the 250grn in the Elite.

I was getting my best groups in the Elite with the short black MMP... but it was so hard to load I ended up breaking the threaded tip off my Knight short starter. ;D So I had to continue with the Harvester short black... not so good.

Grouse,
MMP orange is not the only one.
Have you tried the EZ load 3 petal sabot from MMP? Or the EZ load sabot made by harvestor....or the black crush rib? They are meant for the .451 class bullets but in my Savage, they put a great squeeze on Rem 300's.
Those are 4 I know of that will handle this bullet size potentially well.

I have usd them with really good accuracy. They might be to tight with a .459 bullet. I'll need to try that maybe this weekend.

I rec'd my order of the new Lehigh 277gr .459 MZ bullet and tried them yesterday. I got to my range about 3:30 with my .50 Disc Elite, but it started to rain so I only shot two 3-shot groups (I was tying some other bullets too). Honestly, I haven't been happy with the accuracy thus far with BH209 in the .50 Elite. I know the gun is not the problem, because it shoots lots of bullets very well with T7.
My targets got wet so no pics.... but these bullets got my attention! They easily out-shot my previous best groups with BH209 ( 300 XTP's).. and I've tried a lot of different bullets now. Both groups were 1/2" @ 50 yds... with 2 of the 3 bullets in both groups almost... but not quite... in the same hole. For me... that's about as good as it gets! ;D
They also load beautifully... read that very snug (but not ramrod breaking tight) with the orange MMP's in my Knight... so that should help with cold weather ignition.
It's such as small sampling and I have to do more testing....but I have a feeling this may be the bullet I've been looking for in the Elite with BH209. Next time I'll bring the camera.
