I'm mostly a hunter, and looking to build a Remington 700 ML conversion. Most of the threads I see here use stocks without ramrod storage, I assume for accuracy reasons. What are my best options for ramrods for hunting purposes for something like a Boyd's stock?

Personally, I find the fiberglass rods a bit lacking in sturdiness, unless you size your bullets consistently loose. I have both a fiberglass ram rod from Spin jag, the giRAMROD and a brass ram rod that came with the break open I had built. I like the brass unit better. Of course you want the spin jag loader and bullet starter compatible with the Parker style bullets. Some of the builders on this board are adept at consolidating the ram rod with the stock, they'll chime in I'm sure.

Highpower just recently I read a post here where somebody contacted Macand he does not make the collapsible ramrod any longer,he did however point them to this tentpoletechnologies.com/?page_id=17and I believe to the .380 dia. poles. I have looked for the post but can not find it. good luck.

It does not effect accuracy of the rifle. Jeff

Luke on this site still has the collapsable rod available. He's making me a custom shorty as I type this.

a rod can be done in the stock; I personally do mine in a rod tube epoxied into the stock without a thimble on the barrel. It is completely floating so it will not affect accuracy at all.
It does take some time and a few bucks on parts and one must have the proper gadgets to get it done but it works well in the end..

I just carry the stock 700 rod in my pack. The rod slides right in through the hydration bladder spout hole. Sticks out about 4". No muss no fuss.
