during fall nmlra shoot sold my knight douglas custom my brother was shooting. i have a knight brux custom that jeff hankins helped get together and its a shooter. and have ordered another brux to build another. so to get my brother a gun up and running deciced to build another knight douglas which shoot very well. as build progressed over last few weeks decided to trick this one out a little and make it stand out . ive been involved in several street rod builds so ill call it a trailer queen but were gonna shoot it alot. specs. found a discontinued long range hunter stock, mountaineer action and gear, douglas 26" xx 1-20 twist .451/.458 barrel , using a custom breech plug with bare 209 primer, with .030 bushing . flame channel .144 x.600 , talley bases . pillar installed and bedded action and floated barrel. will get topped in morning with talley rings and bushnell tactical elite 4.5x30x56 and off to range to test. my plans are to shoot 95gr by weight blackhorn 209 with .060 veggie wad and full form 310 apb.

Rambler. +1 on the stove top I like gas but no wife. Nice gun and good results. As soon as I get a few more answers I'm going to get either a Krieger or Brux Barrel on order. I want to try a cut rifled barrel in stead of button.

Krieger and brux are no doubt top notch and very accurate. This last Douglas barrel is same as last 4 ive received .451 land to land and consistent muzzle to plug . Nice part is parker bullets load and shootwith no sizing and moa accurate. Plus easy to get quick

Please don't take me wrong I'm not faulting any barrel. You have proven that the barrels you use are top quality. You have the advantage of being a great trigger man. Hopefully if I get this gun I'm hoping to build finished I'll be able to find someone of your caliber to really give it a chance to show it's stuff.

I appreciate the compliment but i dont compare to some with true god given talent. I spent alot of time at range shooting and working techniques. I view it like archery its all about form . You did open about quality barrels and imo cut rifle barrels are worth it but few trigger guys can make them produce up to their capabilities. So most button guns will shoot well for most. Imo the key to accuracy is rite bullet and charge for each given barrel. Yesterday testing new gun i changed powder charge up 5 grain and shot 3" group went back down 5 grain and shot1" group then went back up 2 grain and 3 shots same hole. Wild thing was these 3 loads had 100 fps avg change

Why use a Knight vs a Rem 700 action? Knight does not make an action, so I assume you are cutting off a used Knight just ahead of the breech plug? Not only a lot of extra work, but seems like a HUGE liability issue for you if you're selling these.

Why a knight because i like them and building what manufacture should be making. Yes your rite alot of work and i enjoy every minute of it and a challenge to make each one better. Im confident in my build and integrity. Im not sure why but seems you have a issue with my custom knight you made a thread with a 1-20 twist for sale and used a comparison of cost between it and my build with no ideal of what my build cost.

Bestill since you were at the last match at Friendship and shot in the match, what barrel were the top 5 or even top 10 places using? I heard a Knight with a GM barrel won and i know your brother did very well. I know you have done very well also in the inline matches.

Glad you asked that question i dont have facts but i would be close by saying7 of top ten using knight and 2 of 7 were custom barreled and of other3 2 were ultimate and balance was encore or austin halleck
Other fact when started competing inline match with a knight custom there were only couple knights now they several . And the record score for aggregate was set with a knight Douglas and should have been broken but some guy decided to change bullets week before fall match always learning

Thank you. I enjoy both my Knight 45s and my Pacnor45 but they are not in the same league IMO. Pacnors are held to much better tolerances and so are many other custom barrels. I love my Douglas barrel on my NULA too. Butter smooth and wonderfully accurate. I would be quite happy with a Douglas conversion on my DISC Original 45. Melvin wont make the NULAs in 45cal anymore. I would certainly consider the Lothar Walther barrel on the Ultimates as a custom barrel. Its hardly a common place offering although Knight did use them for a short time. Knight's team won roughly 6 years in a row with a 45cal 1-18. At least one year they shot sabots with bullets from Precision Rifle. That was years ago though and the Manufactures Match is long gone after White cleaned house with a smaller caliber "Varminter" rifle.

the Record you are talking about at Friendship is for Spring shoot. The National Championship is shot in September. There are two sets of Records. The winning rifle was shooting a Knight with a 1-18 Green Mountain Barrel with 80 grns. 2ff Swiss Black Powder.

Yes i understand that completely!! And spring shoot was debute of inline hunter match and I recorded a score of 243 and brother shot242 with same gun. Which set aggregate match record at 243 . And yes i know what won fall match and know him personally he lives 3 miles from my house. Also i know he shot a awesome match and scored 240 . So i believe my statement was dead on. 243 is nmlra inline aggregate match record spring/fall or otherwise. I get the feeling some fellas dont like my custom knight competing in this class but it meets all class criteria and that's why its a open class . Just my observations. But it also motivates me to do better which is cool. Thanks and god bless.
