Has anyone ever thought of putting a barrel liner into your 50cal barrel to maybe 45cal? Or maybe even smaller like a 40cal and try to keep it stock looking? And make it shoot better or to get it to where you can shoot it sabot less. They reline high powered rifle barrels all of the time. So could this work for us too? I have a 50 and 45 now that shoot great but was asked if it would work and I did not know the answer.

Colin Stoltzer has done it with inlines

that was not really a liner job, it was basically a barrel drilled out and a smaller barrel glued in. The downside there would be weight. Its surprising how much weight a little extra barrel thickness adds. Colin did that gun for me, but knowing what I know now about the whole deal, I would have went a slightly different route

Isn't that what a liner is; a barrel drilled out and smaller barrel glued in?

As I recall I once saw barrel liners in the Brownell's materials. Unless it was a sentimental rifle etc. I did not think it was very cost effective.

Yes.... It would be much cheaper in the long run to just buy a new barrel and get a much better job when finished... I personally would not want a barrel liner glued in.....especially in a high powered rifle..... Jeff..

the only reason I did it was to get an inline .32 caliber. Its basically a roundball shooter squirrel gun. search mountaineer to .32 conversion its been in several forums now. Its about impossible to find an inline squirrel gun. Plenty fun to shoot, and great fun for squirrel

There is an exception to every rule.... It does make since to do it for a caliber change of this nature... I have a 32 caliber Ky long rifle I build 20 years ago and although I have not shot it in quite sometime I do remember the fun days walking in the woods looking for that big red squirrel sitting on a branch.. It was a lot of fun.....I went squirrel hunting with it one morning and two friends went with me., they both had 12 ga shot guns and during the morning hunt I saw several squirrels and heard the other guys shoot several time each, I finally got to take one shot and killed one squirrel. When we returned to the truck, I asked where's your squirrels? Both guys had missed with every shot and I was the only one to have a kill that day.. and did it with a 32 caliber long rifle. shooting a .315 round ball and 30 grains of FFFFg.... Jeff.
