I traded for a new Henry 45-70 five days ago and I'm very pleased with it. Fit and finish are excellent, nice trigger for a lever gun and the walnut is beautiful. I can hold a group that fits inside a golf ball at fifty yards with the ghost ring sights and shooting off hand, well leaning my shoulder against my house lol but when the time comes I'm a shooter.

I've never owned or shot one, but from those I know that do, or have, I have heard nothing but good things about them (Henry Rifles).

Will it handle the hot 45-70 loads like for a #1 Ruger?

It looks like a Marlin so I bet they designed it to

Yes the basic design (action) seems to be Marlin but I think its a matter of the Marlin patent expired just like all the Winchester clones from other companies. I think the rifle is built much better than my Marlin. I said it had a decent trigger for a lever gun but I should have said for any gun It seems to be around 3.5 lbs with no creep or grit and breaks real nice. The action is super smooth and dunno about all but my gun is a work of art. The cartridges load just like a 22 tube feed rim-fire some might not like that but I do.

Will it handle the hot 45-70 loads like for a #1 Ruger? Rossman, from what I searched the action is rated for 45k psi but with the top end modern lever action loads there is only about 135 fps difference than top Ruger loads considering all things equal, bullet weight barrel length etc.

My old neighbor would push 300gr bullets up over 2500fps in his #1s, around 2200 in his lever actions.

Fresh off the Hodgdon website 24in test barrels for both. Lever 300gr bullet 2424 fps, 400gr 2002 fps. Modern rifle including Ruger 300gr bullet 2532 fps, 400gr 2108 fps.
